Vegetables … just grow up!

A few months ago my zucchinis were looking magnificent.  And I got a few zucchini slices and other meals out of them.   Then my broccoli grew and so did the celery … and once again they were enjoyed.

But such is the cycle of the vegie garden.  Once harvested it’s gone and now, with the busy-ness of life, a bit of neglect and the change of season my garden is depleted.

I’m left with a few hot chillis lurking about but not much else.

Even Harry is not impressed.

So with my vegetable patch looking sad and forlorn I was forced to hit the grocery store.

For something lighter today and in keeping with Frank’s photo theme this week on Vegetables I thought I’d share some light-hearted jokes on the topic.

What did the lettuce say to the celery?  Quit stalking me.

What do you call a retired vegetable?  A has bean!

Why are you looking so glum?  I’ve lost my root vegetable.  Don’t worry, it will turnip.

steamed vegies

What did the rabbit say to the carrot?    It’s been nice gnawing you.

Why did the tomato get embarrassed?  Cos it saw the chick pea!

We went driving tonight, after hours, to get a photo of my local fruit shop.  Here it is.  Closed.
Knock, Knock! Who’s there? Lettuce. Lettuce who? Lettuce in, its cold out here.

I know they’re pretty corny.  What can I say.  It’s Wednesday, hump day.  Excuse me while I go make myself something healthy.

coffee and beans

I’m off to get some coffee and some dark chocolate … whoops, I mean vegetables!

Stay safe, be happy and healthy and enjoy the rest of your week.

  1. Haha it really was coffee and dark chocolate hey! (It’s fine, you can tell me, I won’t tell a soul) Shame, pity about your veggie garden, but it will thrive again with a little bit of TLC…maybe Harry can help 🙂 Seriously though at least you did manage to enjoy what you had grown, nothing is better that veggies fresh from the garden. Have a good day further.

  3. Love the shot of Harry. And the veggie jokes. We can’t even grow anything here in our yard in Illinois as the squirrels like to steal everything right before it ripens. We’ve given up and just plant flowers now, some of which they do still eat, but we don’t mind that as much. We get our veggies from our local farmers market and our co-op. Still local, still tasty, and not half eaten. 🙂 Great post.

    1. Oh, those rotten greedy squirrels! We have rabbits here that are just as pesky. And I love a good Farmers Market. We have one here too once a month but I don’t get there very often. Probably should. 🙂

        1. Good idea with the wire cages. As for those pesky possums, they’re far too creative for their own good, obviously been watching too many you tube videos …

  4. Not sure if you meant it as a pun or not but, “I know they’re pretty corny” was my favorite part of the blog. Great pictures, but that’s what I’ve come to expect and Harry was in there too.

        1. I guess so. Maybe for the moment it can wait. Although I got out in the backyard before with my son and as cold, gusty and drizzly that it was, it felt invigorating. 🙂

Hey I wanted to let you know that I’m going to be at a spiritual seminar for about a week to a week and a half. It’s full days so I’m taking a break from blogging during this time. Just in case you were wondering why you didn’t hear from me. Blessings your way, have a wonderful week or so. Loving
