Today on Mother’s Day here in Melbourne the weather is decidedly wintery. Grey, cloudy, wet and cold. There was no sun out today, and so there was no need for a hat, just an umbrella.
I already miss summer. The heat and warmth. Those long balmy days, spending time on the beach and out in the sun. But there’s no doubt the sun is intense in Australia. It packs a real punch and if you stay in it too long without head protection you’re likely to turn into a lobster. Which means when we’re travelling wearing a hat becomes second nature.
So when Hugh’s Weekly Photo Challenge came up I immediately thought of the times that we spend outside. And how often we wear our hats and caps.
Whether it’s on one of our gorgeous beaches, out on picnics, trekking in the mountains or horse riding, wearing a hat is as Aussie as they come. As the sun protection slogan goes: “Slip Slop Slap, Seek and Slide”, the slap part being to “slap on a hat”.
And of course Harry doesn’t want to miss out. On his cuddles with Tash or his hat.
Wishing you all sunshine and warmth wherever you are.
Stay safe and keep enjoying the journey.
Oh my gosh! The picture of Harry in a hat is too much! Look at the love in his face! What a sweetheart he is! And your daughter is just gorgeous! Great post Miriam! Happy Mother’s Day I hope it’s been beautiful even though the weather didn’t get the memo 😉

You can always pick the Aussies overseas. We’re the only ones wearing hats. I hope the weather warms up again for you. It’s still gorgeous here in QLD.

I’m sooooooo jealous! I think our warm weather has well and truly ended. 😦

It’s unusual where we are for it to still be so warm during the day at this time of year, so we’re making the most of it. It’s forecast to continue on for a bit longer yet.

I agree that hats are essential during the sunny summer months, Miriam. Even here in the UK, many people do wear them. I often think it’s those that don’t wear them when it’s hot and sunny who are the silly ones. Being fair skinned it’s an essential bit of fashion for me (as well as plenty of factor 50 sunscreen).
Looks like you had a great summer and that the whole family made the most of the great weather.
Harry looks very cool in his hat. 😀

I am, Debbie. Dare I say that we’re in the middle of a mini heatwave here in the UK. However, by tomorrow, it will all be over. 🌩

I couldn’t get my dogs to wear a hat for a second, but Harry is a total natural in his. Your family is so beautiful and what a creative use of the prompt. I’ve nominated you for The Black Cat Blue Sea Award. I hope you will accept. Have a look at my link for more details https://homehugshuskies.wordpress.com/2016/05/09/the-black-cat-blue-sea-award/. Have a great day ❤

Ahhh – Australia! Click. Thought you were in the US for some reason. Love the hat on the dog trick – I bet it doesn’t stay on long when you put him down! 🙂
Unless you duct-tape it in place.

Haha 🙂 You’re right, Harry always finds a way to shake it off. And yes, I’m from Down Under, but don’t hold that against me. We’re pretty friendly down here. 🙂

Never thought Australians were anything less than friendly. Mind you, my point of view is probably skewed by a mis-spent youth watching Kylie Minogue in Neighbours! 🙂 Isn’t that what all of Australia is like?
