Today the kids started back at school so I went to visit mum for a couple of hours. It was a beautiful Autumn day so I took her out into the courtyard to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. I noticed that the gardener had pulled out all the flowers that were dying. There was fresh dirt and space for new growth. When I got home I checked our own vegie patch which has been a bit neglected lately. To my surprise I found a couple of large zucchinis amongst the mass of nothingness. New growth always heartens me.
Yesterday we came home from camping hence why I’ve been quiet on the blogging and reading front. I will get back to it very soon. During our weekend away we tackled a particularly challenging walk that I’ll be writing about soon. It was strenuous, probably one of the steepest climbs I’ve done for a while and the photo below shows us at the end of the day around the camp fire.
We were exhausted hence the shoes were off as we relaxed and warmed our weary feet.
And the next morning the grate turned the fire into our breakfast cooktop. Hubbs cooked up a hearty start to the day with bacon and eggs and an assortment of side dishes.
Sometimes all we need in life are the basics which is why I love camping and getting back to nature so much. Warmth, food and drink and good company.
This is part of the Mundane Monday Challenge #54 a challenge created to find beauty in almost everything. The challenge is simple : find beauty in everyday mundane things, capture the beauty and upload the photographs.
Wishing you all a happy and peaceful week ahead. Amidst all the mundane and busy routines of life I hope you get a chance to put your feet up and rest.
That camp fire looks so inviting, Miriam. Sounds like it was an active yet rewarding trip 🙂

I am thinking that I want to plant some zucchini this summer! I just discovered that I love them within the last two weeks.
What I really love is the topic of your post. Getting back to the essentials. You have a very special way of reminding me of that. Thanks so much. I can’t wait to hear about that hike! Have a great week.

Wow, so much fun in there, I love camping, but my hubby hates it, so no camping for me. Love your zucchini, I’m starting to prepare my garden and thinking what should I plant this year, now I’ll pick zucchini too. Have a wonderful week!

In 2014 we spent six consecutive nights camping in Botswana with no link to the outside world. We all loved it and relaxed and conversed as you did. Sadly, as soon as Facebook was available our collective heads were pointed at our respective phones and iPads.

Yeah, social media seems to be the way of the world now. So it’s nice to have a complete disconnect when we can.

Sounds like a good recharge before the routine starts. I’m interested to hear about your climb. Back to work today after the school holiday break.
Is your Mum still living independently? Re the zucchinis – don’t forget the zucchini flowers they are great stuffed, battered and fried. Make sure you clean them thoroughly as the earwigs like them.
Enjoy getting back into the routine.

Hey Louise, thanks for that and for the zucchini flower tips. As for my climb, compared to what you’ve done, it will seem like a walk in the park to you!
Mum is no longer living independantly unfortunately. She’s in a home now, in high assisted care, where we can visit her, fairly close by. Hope you have a good week.

Well it is all relative. I’m a bit out of condition at the moment. Need to get back into it.
Sorry about your Mum but it’s good that it is close by.

Yes it is, thanks Louise. Maybe you could get back into condition with some Zumba! 🙂
