Waves of Change

When I was a little girl I nearly drowned. One minute I was standing ankle deep in a river and the next I was over my head in a hole. It feels a bit like that today.

I never learnt to swim. My parents were born in the mountains of northern Italy and when they immigrated to Australia learning to swim was probably the last thing on their mind.

We were at Paradise Valley, near Licola. I remember going under, the darkness and the panic. Fortunately my brother was nearby with a tyre.

From then on I avoided deep water. School swimming carnivals were stressful. I forged mum’s signature on notes, hid in change rooms, skipped classes, anything to avoid getting into the water.

Choosing to face our fears

Fast forward a few years, and there comes a point when you can’t hide from your fears anymore. For me, it was when I met Doug who loved scuba diving. I was 23. It was either I learn to swim or be stressed out every time I went out with him and his friends in their boat.

So I took the plunge, literally. I took swimming lessons with his mate, who offered to patiently teach me, and slowly I let go of my fears. Today I love the water.

I’ve swum in lakes and rivers and off the shores of places like Kangaroo and Fraser Island. I’ve snorkelled in the Maldives and the Great Barrier Reef. The beach is my happy place but I’m still a bit of a coward when it comes to the open ocean. I like to think of it as a healthy respect.

These days there are no beaches or travel plans on the horizon but there’s a much bigger wave taking place. And it’s all on an energetic and vibrational level.

Freedom comes from letting go

Right now in Melbourne, and around the world, fear and confusion is rampant. But there comes a time when you have to say ENOUGH. You have to let it go, particularly when it doesn’t make sense anymore. That inner knowing, that intuition is clouded by fear. But deep inside we know that something isn’t right with all the inconsistencies of this global ‘pandemic’.

Underneath the surface what is REALLY going on? This ‘deadly’ virus (with a recovery rate of 99.75%), the social distancing, keeping us apart and isolated, mandatory masks, continued lock-downs and rushed experimental vaccines seem to be heading towards a much bigger agenda. Why all the censorship and manipulation of data? There’s so much conflicting information, so many lies and so many questions.

But this is the most important thing to remember because, right now, this ebb and flow of fear that’s being played out on all channels is our biggest challenge. It plays 24/7 and it’s incessant.

The dark narratives are overwhelming. But we can choose to not get swamped. We can choose to let go of the struggle. Do your own research, beyond the MSM and open your eyes to different possibilities. Ditch the nightly news of repetitive negativity. When we can lose its stranglehold of fear and stay grounded in the energy and frequency of love, the anxiety, panic and stress starts to fade. We begin to trust our intuition.

Riding the Waves

Have you noticed that when you’re swimming you don’t look too far ahead? You’re focused on where you are in that moment. It’s the same with our current scenario. Instead of wondering when we’ll be free from our lockdowns (a date which keeps changing and is out of our control) we can choose to feel free TODAY.

This is not a time to run away and hide, like that scared little girl who hid in the change room during swimming days long ago. It’s a time to stand up for what we know is instinctively right.

We have to ride these waves and rise above the swells that cause that pendulum of feelings. And there are many … from frustration to grief, from wonder to sadness, from anxiety to love, from anger and appreciation, to peace, fear and empathy and then back again. It’s intense, it’s up and down and it’s all normal.

It takes courage to dive into the unknown and to look beyond the depths of our unconscious mind and what the main stream media would have us believe. We’ve been conditioned for so long to accept whatever we’re fed but enough with the BS. Things are slowly unravelling, all over the world. My mind is wide open to the bigger, darker picture, however not everyone is on the same wavelength. And that’s okay, because we’re all at different stages of the journey.

One of the biggest challenges right now is how we react to others who don’t think the same way as we do. There’s no good, bad, right or wrong way to react and, regardless of our different opinions and beliefs, we need to let go of judgement and division. The best we can do is respond with an open heart and with empathy.

That’s our challenge. To unify, however we feel. To respond with compassion and love every person, even those we don’t understand or agree with. As Lorie Ladd says in one of her videos, “We have to stand in the arena with an open heart, regardless of our beliefs.”

Finding our Strength

With non judgement we can move forward. We can rise and shine and release the struggle and suffering. This is a time to surrender to who we are, a time to both find our voice and that inner calm amongst the storm, however intense it gets out there.

With all that’s going on we can feel powerless. But it’s far from the truth. We, you and I, the individual, have more power than ever before. Our strength lies within us.

When you look past the programs the emotions, stories and narratives and start to shift into a higher vibration of feeling, you’ll find your voice, you’ll find that you’re safe and ultimately you will find your freedom.

We all have the ability of discernment, of questioning and delving beneath the surface, even when we don’t like what’s there. I can’t live in the dark anymore but the choice is ours alone.

Lorie Ladd has a great technique to find calm in the midst of the storm. You can listen to her here.

Exercise, meditate, do what makes you feel good and brings you joy. Spend time in nature, look after your immune system and devour that sunshine. When the clouds roll in and you get into a slump remember, it will pass.

The one certainty in all of this is change. Our Universe is moving and shifting at a huge rate. Can we, in the midst of it all, keep our vibration focused on peace, light and joy? Can we trust that everything that is dismantling is happening the way it’s meant to, for our higher good?

Our vibration is the new economy in a new world. It’s our most precious gift and our job right now is to keep it as high as we can and align it with love.

Sending you all virtual hugs as we continue this amazing journey and together raise the consciousness of the planet.

In love and light

The light always shines through the darkness

  1. Loved your post. Powerful! “With all that’s going on we can feel powerless. But it’s far from the truth. We, you and I, the individual, have more power than ever before. Our strength lies within us.” I hope those who do not know the power they possess are able to finally see and feel it.

    1. Thanks Jill. Yes, I honestly believe a big part of the problem is this division among people that seems to have come about from all of the fear mongering. Many don’t even see it but we need to stand together and unify, even when we don’t necessarily agree with each other. Here’s hoping. 🙏

  3. Wonderful post, Miriam. Long ago I realized not a lot of people think like the same way I do, so I’m mostly surprised when other people do have similar thoughts. I simply accept people for what they are, and try to get people to find some common ground among their differences. A difficult task these days.

It’s sad how early childhood experiences shape so much of our behavior. At least you overcame your legitimate fear of water and can now enjoy swimming, surfing and scuba diving. I learned to swim when I was five and used to love everything to do with water and swimming. My ear tubes are too narrow to clear underwater. Even though I tried, I never could scuba dive.

    1. HiTim, I like what you said about finding common ground. I think that’s a big key in accepting our differences, particularly in these challenging times.
And so true about how our childhood experiences affect and shape us, in so many ways. Whilst I overcame my fear I don’t scuba dive and I still prefer to stay on top of the water!

Kudos on overcoming your fear of swimming and thanks for being a voice of love and compassion in a sea of fear, division, and information overload. Like you, I believe there is more going on with this virus. There is too much that doesn’t add up. Meanwhile, I’ll practice my compassion and new economy skills! Love and hugs…

  6. I grew up on the shores of the Atlantic, and learned to swim at a young age. I won’t swim beyond the shores, though, because of the healthy respect I have for the critters swimming there, too. My dad was from Northern Italy, too. A small world indeed.

  7. Brainwashed into submission comes to mind, Miriam. I’m no great thinker but there are plenty of things that don’t add up right now. We need to find our own way, and trust in what feels right. Such a beautiful last photo! And you, a beautiful soul 🙂 🙂

  8. We do live in a time of confusion and fear. Fear is a natural response, if a crocodile is in the water you dare not swim, you keep away. Same with the deadly virus, we try to keep away. Natural reaction. May we all succeed.

I smile at the swimming. It certainly is part of where we grow up. I grew up on a little island and was taught to swim a a little child. Loved it and still do.

    Keep safe

  9. Beautiful, uplifting words, Miriam. It takes incredible courage to examine our beliefs and reality, and to face our fears. I’ve realized that many do not have what it takes, even though they may appear courageous on the surface. You are one of the real heroes.🙂

    1. Oh Julie, your words are incredibly touching. I don’t see myself as a hero at all, just an ordinary woman fumbling her way through this crazy turbulent time. It’s comments like yours and friendships I’ve made here that help and give me strength to find my way. So thank you from my heart. 🙏

  10. I’ve read this post a few times just absorbing the overall message. There is SO much to comment on but I second what Julie says, HEAR HEAR!! It does take courage to not only get over your fear of swimming in the water (WOW!), but to dive deep within to face what terrifies us within. So many do not have what it takes to do this but instead they are projecting those inner fears onto the outer making everyone in their path miserable. Your words soothe, give hope, and speak TRUTH, something that is rare these days as lies seem to be the “fad”. I am so proud of you as you continue living in severe conditions in your country and still can portray such serenity. You can’t fake that. I both hear it in your words and what you write. I encourage all in this world to stop spinning out of control, take their steering wheel back to drive away from fear and to begin asking what is going on because come on, this is NOT about a virus. Just amazes me that so many just don’t even want to acknowledge that. I see you and believe me the maturity I am witnessing in you blows me away! You shine and you rock, Miriam. Don’t allow draconian measures to steal you in any way!! Stay strong and stay connected (you know where!). I do love you for you are my sister!! (((HUGS))) Amy

    1. Amy, your words are like a warm soothing blanket around me. Thank you. It’s not always easy standing amid the storm but I’ve seen, read and heard too much to ever go backwards now. I know many are choosing to simply follow the MSM and government directives but I can only hope that as time goes on they’ll start to question what clearly doesn’t make sense and yes, as you said, grab that steering wheel and regain a bit of control!
I’m just back from my hour walk breathing in the fresh open air with no mask and no fear, enjoying the freedom of nature. Even in this lockdown there’s so much to be grateful for and that’s what I’m choosing to focus on, protecting and building my immune system, not the opposite.
Thank you for your unwavering support, your light and inspiration which you know has impacted me so much. Big hugs and yes, love you lots, my soul sis. xxx

      1. Aw, Miriam, your words in turn flowed over and around me embracing me with tenderness and love. Those of us who “think” alike are here to support one another and hold one another up on those days we don’t think we can take one more step. By reaching out to the other, a bond is made and our hearts and spirits sing because of that bond. There is so much dissonance in our world that to have those bonds is precious, more precious then gold to me. We’re going to get through this! The most important factor in all of this is IMO to stay healthy and strong in all of our bodies. Sending so much love to you!! xo

  11. Oh my goodness, Miriam, My heart stopped for a second when I read your first sentence. Like you describe, a feeling that will never leave you. Huge kudos to you for learning how to swim as an adult. I believe a “healthy respect” is a healthy way to live in general. A positive.

Your words “energetic and vibrational” created goosebumps on my arms. You are right. I had a “click” a “let it go” recently. I will elaborate more in the near future. The “repetitive negativity” makes me physically and mentally ill. Not my style on how I handle stresses all of my life.

Intuition has always played a huge part in my life. When I listen to it. Thank you, Miriam for the reminder and reinforcement.

We will ride that wave together. I know we are on the same wavelength. Our vibration has always been our currency. Exceptionally stunning photos! A great post!❤️

In the meantime thank you again and yes, here’s to riding that wave together, staying positive and trusting our intuition. Big hugs xx

  12. Hi Miriam, I can so relate to your experience. One time I swam in a public pool with tile bottom, I slipped unexpectedly and struggled but it was slippery. It took a while to get a hold of firm footing. I was afraid of water for a while but I was okay to swim in a shallow water in the ocean. I could snorkel in a shallow water. I can go into deep water. Our bad experience made us fearful and the unknown is not helping either. Thank you for this insightful and inspiring post. ❤

  13. Miriam, a wonderful post and what an introduction to this most philosophical of writings! Phew, thank goodness your brother was to hand and save you. I would never have imagined you where so afraid of the ocean as a result since you love it so much now and it seems an integral part of you. I love your positive spirit in the post, reinforcing how ‘ Our strength lies within us‘! In our own ways most of us are finding a way to continue our lives, in whatever format that has to be for now. Yet, the fear is palpable… alas here in the U.K. the mortality rate is far higher than in Australia and stands over 12% and for many survivors the effects are still felt months later, none too sure what the recovery rate will look like.

Wishing you well, my dear friend … enjoy the beauty and might of ocean, The now of every stroke of life! Love & hugs, xx ❤️🦋

With regard to the virus, you’re right, most of us have coped and continued easily with our lives but there’s no doubt this crisis has affected humanity and the way we live. That palpable fear is not healthy and i believe is more of a threat than the virus itself. Take care my friend and enjoy each day. xx 💙

  14. Couldn’t agree more MIriam, the news and information overload that we are all suffering currently is often overwhelming. So many people are terrified and so many lives have been impacted economically by the governments reaction to the pandemic. Who really knows what the truth is? It’s all about reducing your information exposure and managing where you pick up your relevant news. Then working out how to manage your own risk. Wonderful post.

  15. I think it’s very brave to learn to swim as an adult. Brave because you must be willing to be vulnerable. Lately I have been trying to see the positives coming with this virus. Slowing down. More time with family. Appreciating the little things. Learning new ways to work, deliver services, and teach and learn. The way, at least in my country, it has highlighted our systemic weaknesses that must be addressed now, especially as it relates to healthcare and education and employment inequalities. I feel we will never be the same and I kind of like that.

    1. Kim, you’re absolutely right. There are so many positives and silver linings that have come from this, so many things that have come to the surface that need addressing and the simple fact that perhaps we’ll never take our freedoms for granted again. Thank you for your insightful perspective.

  16. Good for you for overcoming your fear of swimming after nearly drowning! That takes strength. And so does saying that there is a lot about the data we are getting about this virus that doesn’t add up. Yes, the virus is real, and in some cases it is fatal. But the “numbers” change daily and there are a lot of people who are using the virus and the fear to forward their own agendas. What’s truly scary is how many people aren’t evening questioning it.

    Liked by 4 people

    1. Oh yes, the virus is real but what’s even more real is the false data and information instilling fear around the world. I think people are slowly waking up and questioning which is a good thing. I guess the best we can do is stay anchored in the present whilst still being aware of the bigger picture. Stay well Ann. xx

  17. Wonderful Wisdom here Miriam… Indeed when one lets go of fear and opens ones mind and heart, you then begin to see a different bigger picture unfolding, that you then need to question as you see two and two not adding up..
Loved your images Miriam of this post and the last, I forgot to say in my last comment..
And that you learnt to overcome your fear as you learnt to swim…

Focusing on the now is most important.. that is how I get through my day… Living in the moment.. while being greatly aware of the wider world and what is on going… Knowing ALL is unfolding in its own time… And while yes All of it is distressing as you See deeper than most..

Learning to breathe through it.. And Lori’s meditation exercises are a brilliant way to de-stress and feel that peace and calming presence as we shut out the madness of the world outside..

Going within is so important… Shedding fears, releasing of anger, frustrations, all the emotions that have built up within over time and perhaps life time after life time all not bubbling beneath the surface…
We are all DEEP DIVING beneath the waves right now as we are confronted by our inner most fears.. For some they are shedding them, while others are perhaps only just surfacing as they are being brought to the surface right now.. As they are now only just confronting those inner hidden layers than need clearing out as we purge out all that needs shedding..

A wonderful post Miriam.. Thank you for your light and love that you share, your encouragement in these uncertain times…
Your posts are a beacon that I am sure will help many who read your wise and beautiful words ❤ 🙏💖

    1. Thank you so much Sue. I feel your words and the truth in them deeply. Every day I hear more draconian restrictions being enforced on us and every day they appear more and more absurd. Part of me is gobsmacked at what’s unfolding, the other part accepts that all of this must play out. I so agree that living and being grounded in the moment is key, whilst at the same time keeping our eyes open to the big picture around us. Aligning in love. Holding faith over fear. Trusting in the higher good s as meditating, yes that’s helping so much. Thank you, as always dear friend, for your insights, your wisdom and for being here shining your light in these unique times. Sending love, hugs and warmest wishes to you. xxx ❤️🙏

      1. The more that is pushed upon people sooner of later there will be a push back… Some of the regulations are not making sense and people are questioning now.. And our Government here even though their own website has said for months now that the alert is now nothing more than a normal flu year in not so many words, but its been down graded drastically… Yet they plan to vote in parliament to keep the measures in place for another TWO years!!!… What! is that all about????….. Its killing small business and the affects upon children, etc is taking its toll… I have noticed the affects its had on my nine year old granddaughter and its heart-breaking, she now turns away from me if I go to hug her… So ingrained has this been indoctrinated within their minds..
But despite all of this I Trust in a Divine plan at work and all of this is allowing people to wake up, purge out their own traumas and it is allow those to work behind the scenes in helping rescue others..
I have renewed hope that those who are behind the narrative may soon be running to the hills… love is surfacing even if at times it appears that things are getting worse…. The bigger Picture has yet to unfold layer by layer….
And if all were revealed too soon or all at once, people would not believe or even comprehend the depth some have sunk to..
So dearest Miriam… Hold faith, keep walking out into your glorious countryside when ever you can, and know within your heart we have already WON this battle…. It just now needs to play out in this 3D world…
Much love my friend and thank you for those lovely compliments.. 🙂 ❤

So much doesn’t make sense that surely more people will wake up. . Two years! Thats crazy snd would totally destroy the economy and our fundamental way of life. How sad for this generation of kids. My heart did a flip when you wrote about your granddaughter turning away from you but my feeling is that you can’t just negate years of hugs and affection. and memories will resurface. And we’ll all regain that instinctive human reaction to reach out and hug again. We will! Like you I’m trusting in a bigger picture and a Divine plan. Thank you Sue for your comforting and heartfelt words. Always appreciated. Have a lovely Sunday and sending much love your way. xxx 🧡🙏

Thanks so much for motivating us with your inspiring example of how you faced your fear of swimming, I truly love that. And what a spot-on metaphor – I guess it truly is about swimming ourselves free and reclaiming our inner guidance, compass, and intuitive knowings right now more than ever. Love how bravely you stand up for envisioning the bigger, more light-filled picture here.

I, like you, truly feel there is a much bigger picture at play. I was just wondering about the vibrational significance of 2020, as I remember looking into numerology a while ago. If I remember it well, the 2 is all about balance and community, and on a certain level I really feel this is a year of karmic balancing in a way. We are all one, including our animal and precious nature world, and the interest of the One/1 can no longer be more important than the wellbeing and interest of 2/ community/the world with ALL its creatures at large etc. Don´t know if that makes sense but I feel you might understand what I m trying to say here, my aligned and cherished amica. I truly loved your final statement “Our vibration is the new economy in a new world. It’s our most precious gift and our job right now is to keep it as high as we can and align it with love.” YES!!! Thanks cara. I will answer your wonderful email this week my dear. Sending so much love and big hugs!!! 💖💖💖 You rock. 💖💖

    1. Hi Maria, yes, your words make perfect sense, in fact I re-read your second paragraph a couple of times to soak it all in and couldn’t agree more. For decades, centuries even, humans have been putting themselves first over the earth, the creatures here and the environment, not realising one can’t exist without the other. And now in 2020, it’s caught up with us. Slowly, we have a chance and a responsibility to do something to help reverse the effects. Such a huge time and an exciting time to be alive, tempered of course now with this urgency to also expose the darker aspects and protect our basic liberties.🙏
Thank you for your beautiful kind words my friend. I know we think similar and I cherish our friendship and kinship over the miles. Have a wonderful week cara, no rush with the email, just stay happy, smiling and at peace. Tanti baci and talk soon. xxx 💕

Yes, I feel it exactly like you do, that centuries of imbalanced way, of not-right relationship (in shamanism I think there is a big focus on right relationship to all beings) , has led to the point we find ourselves at now. Yes, it´s all a bit of a weird hot mess at the moment, isn´t it? Almost as if the old structures try to cement their power in ever- more dominant ways, which obviously sucks. Miriam cara, I hold you warmly in my thoughts! Thanks for your friendship and kinship through space and time, sending lots of love and good vibes your way. 1000 hugs and besotes cara!! I think the biggest part of the judgment that I see is that when someone believes something different it stokes the fear. I get it! We believe what we believe because of the way we were brought up and because of the life experiences we have had. We are all different and so it is not surprising that we would think differently. One of my biggest challenges through this pandemic and political climate here in the U.S. has been that I have been shocked to find people I really care about have VERY DIFFERENT views from my own. I can honor that…and respect that…but I don’t need to debate it.
I hope you have an absolutely fantastic week that shows you little miracles every single day!! Sending love and light!

    1. Lorrie, you’re so right and I’ve been finding exactly the same thing, particularly with close family members and friends who have such different opinions to mine. It can be hard to come to terms with that at times. My challenge is similar to yours and I too need to learn not to debate but to simply accept.
Thanks for reading and your wonderful comment Lorrie. I hope you have a wonderful week. Keep smiling. xx

  28. Thanks for this beautiful post. I agree with you on many aspects, such as the importance of unity and the need to adapt to change. As you already know the only ecosystems that work in nature are the ones that are in a constant state of flux. They respond to their surroundings. They migrate seamlessly with new forces entering the area. Change is met with acceptance, not resistance. The main reason why it seems so hard at the moment is because things are forced – not in a natural state. All this crazy situation is definitely not only related to the virus but the virus is real and we still have to be careful… For the benefits of us all. I cherish our friendship Miriam and I wish you well my dear friend. Much love!

    1. Beautiful words Dominique and I agree that unity is so important. Not to mention the fact that change needs to be met with acceptance not resistance. Still, I believe it’s important to question many of the decisions being made by our leaders, most of which seem in contradiction with our freedoms, mental and physical health and general well being. Yes, the virus is real but to me it hasn’t warranted the massive lockdowns that have decimated our economies. Changing times indeed my dear friend. Stay well and peaceful amongst it all. Sending much love to you. xx

  29. What a frightening experience you endured as a child and so very well done for being brave and overcoming your phobia. It is no mean feat.
Your stats on Corona. May I ask where you source dthe recovery rate from?

      1. Interesting, just today, I was talking to a friend who has a Goddaughter in New York. She is in her thirties and has been battling Covid in her system for three months solid. Her whole family had it, and have recovered, but she hasn’t and isn’t in the high risk group. The virus may have differing strains, as viruses are prone to mutate quickly.

  30. I love this post! And I love you. ❤

Thank you for being my friend, especially through this chaotic time in my life. I try so hard to connect with my blogging world friends but it seems every day something else is a more pressing need. My kids and I have been spending so much time together too, just being, just talking. They used to spend time with their dad and now that he's gone, they spend that time with me. 🙂 It's a blessing! It also means there are somehow fewer hours in a day than there used to be. But I know we would not be able to get through this time without each other.

Tonight, my son is staying overnight with some friends from church and my daughter went to bed early. So I am here, and this is the post that is in my feed. [you can see how far behind I am hahaha] But the timing couldn't be more perfect. ❤ I so need this reminder to find my strength. My husband would tell you that I was his strength. But for myself, it seems so hard to find. That's probably true for a lot of us, right?! We can always find a way to be strong for those we love but it's so hard to remember we have to be strong for ourselves, too. Becoming a widow is awful. Becoming a widow during a pandemic is awful times a hundred. But inside, I can find my strength. Somehow. Thank you for the reminder! Knowing you are here, rooting for me, helps more than you can know.

Love you my beautiful friend! xoxox *hugs* ❤

    1. Hello Ness, my dear friend. How wonderful to find your comment here. I must admit that my blogging time has diminished too, not because I have less time but because during this time of lockdown I’ve gone within and have found less motivation to interact here on WP. Most of my time outside normal domestic stuff is spent outside walking in nature. But you my friend, are special and I’m so glad you reached out again.
I can’t even begin to understand how you must feel in terms of your loss but I’m glad you have your children that bring you comfort , joy and that keep you on your toes. Do you remember what you sent to me a few years ago, when I was in the depths of my grief? It was A Tale of Strength, I’m not sure if you wrote it but anyway it was beautiful and I still have it. Part of it said “Every day you grow a little stronger, explained Agony, “until dragging us around wasn’t as hard as it was at first. We press on until you are strong enough to cast us off and that’s how we know you’re ready for what’s in the box.”

“You are!” spoke Sorrow. “When you’re finally able to toss us aside it means you’re strong and your arms are empty, so you can fully embrace Joy and Hope, Peace and all the rest …”

I’m sure that’s what your husband would want for you. And yes dear friend, inside you can find the strength. I’ll always be here, rooting for you. And sending big warm hugs across the ocean. Enjoy your night alone!

Love you too beautiful soul. Be well and keep smiling. xxxxx

  31. Even though I grew up near water, I was late at learning to swim. You’ve shared so many truths here, Miriam. We do need to look beyond “agenda” and move forward from a source of knowledge, not fear. I hope that you are all doing well. Sending much love, my friend. xx
