Open in 2019

If you could choose one word to describe how you’d like to live your life this year what would it be?

Would it be confident, focused, brave, balanced or something completely different?

It didn’t take me long to figure out mine. In fact, after my last post about Stepping into the Unknown it was obvious.

After the latter part of last year feeling off kilter and constricted, both in a physical and emotional sense, I’m ready to embrace the change and challenges of a new year.

My word, my theme, for this year is OPEN.

This photo above was taken a year ago but it epitomises how I feel today. My hand splint is off and I intend to reach out to whatever lies beyond.

In 2019 I am:

Open to walking through those doors when they appear

Open to new experiences and adventures

Open to saying yes to more opportunities and risks, even when they feel scary

Open to trusting in the powers of the Universe

Open to my heart expanding and allowing love in, especially self love.

Open to trusting my vision and giving myself the freedom to fail

Open to change and the unexpected turns in the road

Open to reaching out and encouraging others through my writing

Open to my dream of creating my own magazine

This photo was taken on New Years Day, opening up my new Gratitude Journal to day one of 2019.

It’s blank here but slowly each page is filling with gratitudes and musings.

Every day we wake up is a chance to begin a new chapter and script our story. We might not be able to control all the outcomes but we can allow space for the wonder and the divine play of life to tease us with opportunities.

What will your word be in 2019?

Choose a word that will challenge you to evolve and push past any self imposed limitations, enabling you to live your best life.

Along with your word and your intentions, I wish you peace, joy and a heart fuelled with passion and purpose.

May the year ahead surprise and delight you amongst your wildest imaginings.

Follow your bliss and the Universe will open doors where there were only walls.

In love and light as we continue the journey.

  1. Thanks, Miriam. A very inspiring post. After thinking about it, I think my word for this year is TRUST. To trust in myself and my abilities, to trust in those around me who say “you can do this” and to trust that various members of my family will find their way.

  2. That’s a wonderful way to view the year before you. Open…. When we’re open to those opportunities that WILL reveal themselves, then the year will be good. Great even! I think perhaps we can get so laser-focused on one thing and one thing only in our resolutions for the new year, we miss opportunities that fall right in front of our faces. Being open, then allows us to see all that is before us as it presents itself. Being open….good thing. Great post

    1. Oh absolutely Glen! I think you’re quite right and it’s why I haven’t made resolutions for a number of years now. Setting goals and being open to opportunities makes it much more likely we’ll achieve them. Hope you have a wonderful year.

  3. Great word Miriam and really fits with everything on your to-be list. I think everyone needs to try and be more open to ideas, others, opinions etc. Wouldn’t the world be a happier place if they were. Not sure what my word would be, need to have a think about that.

    1. Hi Jonno, yes you’re right, the world would be a much better place, more accepting and tolerant if we were all open to others. Hope you have a fabulous year, whatever word you choose.

  4. Wonderful journal, and I adore your word for the year. It’s so easy to close off and focus on what is, rather than what might be, or could be. Happy New Year!

  6. My word is grateful. Life changes when you focus on what you have, what you have been gifted with, rather then what you crave or ‘need’.

  7. Nice motivating post Miriam. Thoroughly enjoyed it and my word of the year would be “Adamant”.
    Adamant to try.
    Adamant to achieve.
Adamant to turn dreams into reality.
And adamant to lose inhibitions and be unafraid.

    1. Yep!!!! I deliberated whether to include that (scary) but it’s been brewing within me. I thought, why not put it out there! We’ll see what happens. Thanks Jo, love that you mentioned it! 😁

    1. Thanks so much Bella. No need for just one word, it can be many or it can be none. Perhaps for you it’s purely action or what you put on paper. Your posts and quotes always inspire me.

  11. Excellent post, and I’m sure you’ll be open to all that 2019 has to offer.
Choose a word? Having had WordPress crash all day today, I think I’ll choose “patience” – can’t hurt!
    Thanks, Miriam.

  12. Hi Miriam,
I feel like I am coming late to this party…just recently read Sue’s post and about her 2 words for this year.
While I don’t think I’ll write publicly about it, at least not yet, I’m thinking my word would be CHOICE. Absolutely everything we do is a choice…including happiness.
    Thanks for the enlightening article.

  13. I had a few words in mind when I began reading this post (hopeful, happy, confident, compassionate, etc.) but I have to say I think I’ll steal yours: “open!” That is so good, and it covers just about everything. Also, I hope you do get to start you own magazine! I’d love to read it, and I would definitely subscribe!

Open is a great word, and your own magazine … please don’t keep me in suspense, more please? On line one I’m guessing ….

My word would be settle, had been a nomad for this life and it’s time to settle … a permanent quiet spot for tiny, my routine, my life 🙂

  16. What a great way to approach the new year, and all the best for you reaching your goals. My word for the year is ‘action’ – I’ve been thinking and planning a few big things, but haven’t had the courage to just do what I have planned. This year it will happen!
