A Mindset Shift

“Just cos you’ve thrown a bearing doesn’t mean all the wheels are gonna fall off the wagon.”  (Quote by a fitter come philosopher, aka, my hubby.)

Things that wear out can either be fixed or replaced but we can’t ignore them.

Success is all about mindset, isn’t it.

Nothing will work unless you do. Maya Angelou

Taking a risk

Over the last six months I’ve immersed myself in an online marketing venture. I attended a three day Home Business Summit in Melbourne, I completed a 21 Steps course and was guided through a series of learning with the support of a business coach.

The tools were in place and I was finding momentum in the process.  It was informative, stimulating and I was learning a lot.

Things were in place and, even though there were days where I felt frustrated because things weren’t moving as quickly as I wanted, I knew I was on the right path.

It felt right. It still feels right.

However, life is fickle and nothing is guaranteed and, even when we have a vision, things don’t always turn out as planned. Challenges and obstacles cross our path and none of us can always predict what’s around the corner.

When things don’t work out

Things can change so quickly. Over the weekend came rumours that the company I was involved in was being investigated for compliance. Even though a part of me understood this could potentially happen, it still took me by surprise.

Then today it was confirmed that said company has been forced to suspend trading. Everything that I had embarked on has ground to an abrupt halt.

Chaos happens. However I’ve learnt that when things don’t work out, it usually means something else is on its way.

What happens now is out of my control but I can choose how to respond. I can adapt.

I can let go of the worry and let things take their course, focusing on making the best of the present moment.

Reflecting

“May your choices reflect your hopes, not your fears.”Nelson Mandela

Last year when I found my supposed “dream job” and then was “let go” after just 18 days I knew that I wasn’t on the right path. My heart and passion was leading me elsewhere.

It’s lead me to where I am today and I’m determined to keep going. There are still so many possibilities and I’m allowing myself to be open to them, not to be put off, not to be afraid to take another risk and work towards my ambition.

However, guilt sometimes creeps in and I wonder whether I’m being unrealistic. Should I simply go back to searching for any old job to help pay the bills. Can I make a living doing what I love? Can I really make a difference in this world?”

HELL I CAN!

Moving forward

When things knock us off course we have to get back up. I think about the words my good friend Lily said to me yesterday.

We’ve been taught a new way of forging forward, we’re already changed in our mindsets and our futures are already put in motion. This is a test for us, so we must do whatever it takes to pass through. There’s a rainbow at the end and a pot of gold for each of us.”

However, I think that a pot of gold is not just out there but is within us.

Learning new ways of thinking, doing and being is crucial for personal growth and wellness.

I’m determined to take the information I’ve learned, the many contacts I’ve made and the skills I was beginning to accumulate, and build on them.

I may have lost a little but I’ve gained a lot too, experience, perspective, knowledge and I’ve embarked on something I never would have imagined previously.

Live with no regrets

Be brave. Take risks. Nothing can substitute experience. Paulo Coelho

The only failures are when we stand still and do nothing. Step out of your comfort zone and watch how things open up. Here are some things I’ve learned recently:

  1. Be adventurous and create your own path, don’t worry about what others think.
  2. Don’t be afraid of change, sometimes that’s when the biggest shifts happen.
  3. Be thankful for what you have instead of what you don’t have.
  4. Become the best person you want to spend the rest of your life with.
  5. Realise that wherever you are in life, you ARE making progress.

It”s all part of the journey and it’s never, ever, too late to make it an amazing one.

When the fog lifts the vision becomes clear.

Wishing you all clarity and focus as we move towards our goals and dreams.

Here’s to that mindset shift, to making a decision to create an awesome life.

In light and love as we continue the journey

  1. It’s scary Miriam your 5 things you’ve learned are pretty much exactly what I’ve been saying to myself for the past few days! Am also at a frustrating point of what and where I’d rather be. But, like a duck, furiously paddling underneath an exterior of holding it all together. 🦆😉🤞You go girl!

  2. ouch sorry for the hic cup … I’ve been waiting for some great news you hoped to share with us 😦
But you are absolutely right, you’ve learnt and grown and not all the wheels fell off!

  3. Phenomenal post, Miriam! SO much wisdom contained in this post. Life is a journey and nothing happens without a reason. You have a great attitude because that is the very tool that will lead you to your next step, applying what you have learned thus far in order to move ahead. Loved every one of your pictures that seamlessly fit in perfectly with your writing. Thank you for the encouragement for me to keep on doing what I do in my own life. Have a great day!!! 😍😘💝

  4. Change is inevitable–it is necessary, even. It may not be easy, but oh, boy does it get the blood flowing in one’s veins! Be it smooth sailing or rough seas, the only way is through. I wish you good wind in your sails, fair weather, and fairer company. 🙂 Na’ama

  5. I wish so much that I had your attitude and drive. You’ve taken some huge steps in getting what you want. I have trouble even taking one tiny step! I guess it doesn’t help that I don’t know what I want… what I’d be good at. There’s no jumping-off point even if I thought I could jump. But that’s my mess. I just don’t have the will, I guess. But I wish the best for you… you’ve worked hard and you deserve it!

    1. That’s so nice of you to say Sandra, thanks. But don’t give up on yourself or trying to work out what you want. From what I can see you’re a damn good writer and you can draw well too. There’s two great jumping off points …

      1. You’re sweet but my drawing’s not that good… and I seem to only write well when it’s my own stuff… poetry, fiction, and all that crap I post about my life. I tried sites that pay you to write articles but I couldn’t do it. I guess I’m not good with prompts or random topics. I think that’s why I don’t really consider myself a writer… if I was one, I should be able to write those sorts of things, too. Ahh… I don’t know!

        1. Of course you’re a writer! Why don’t you consider creating an ebook, using all your own stuff, your poetry, fiction etc. it’ll give you some purpose and direction and might light a spark. Who knows where it might lead. Just a thought …

  10. Miriam, I love all the quotes from Hubby and Nelson. Most of I love how you have bounced back from all the stuff. I agree with the comment from the eternal traveller blogger.

There is Benefit in everything. Stepping stone for a better role and adventure.

I want to give you a big massive hug – your parting paragraph full of strength and wisdom. You are a Powerful Wise Soul…

    – love your words – it is a great one for your own self mastery to repeat daily…

    1. Thanks so much Bella. I guess this post was a combination of all the thoughts I’ve been thinking and ways I’ve got myself through this setback. I’m sure I’ll be referring back to it on days I need reassurance! Yes, self mastery indeed.
So glad you enjoyed it and all the quotes and thoughts. Sending you a big massive hug back. xx 💕

  11. Miriam! What an amazing shift you’ve made here! Most of us would have laid down and you’ve chosen to get back up. Strong work and such strong quotes!

  12. Your response to the setback is admirable. And I think the only way to deal with any setbacks and get something positive out of it. We just have to keep trying, and try to learn from every mistake or setback on the way. You will find your pot of gold.

  13. Bum. But without failure you cannot grow or reach new heights. However it is not you who have failed. The company has done the wrong thing has failed and got away with money doing it!!!.Don’t get me started on companies that rort the system. I am sure you have learnt stuff from their training. Good on you for seeing the positive. Maybe we can catch up the second week of the holidays? Louise x

    1. I’m not sour on the company. It was my decision to become involved and I knew the risks. There’s a lot of good there but I know what you mean…
Yes, I’d love to catch up. You know how to reach me. xx

  14. I am so sorry that life got involved and mixed things up Miri. I have to tell you that I was on my way to write a post about my similar experience recently (similar in the way that life sometimes changes direction even after doing all the right things and everything feeling so right). I got about 30 lines in here and actually laughed right out loud at how many of the words were hitting me right in the face. Let’s just say there were lots of head bobs, mmm hmmm’s and yups’ happening while I read.
I wish you luck and I think you are such a brave and passionate soul. Keep your chin up and keep searching or the right thing for YOU. ❤

    1. Oh yes, that’s right! I remember your venture and setback Nikki. No wonder you were nodding your head and relating. Life has a way of testing us, doesn’t it? As another blogger Tom just wrote “onward and upward kid”. Here’s to better things ahead for both of us. 🙂

  15. Miriam, thank you for contributing to my day. Yesterday was a challenging day at work and I woke up feeling depleted. YOU have filled my cup and reminded me of my strength. This is the learning I am taking forward with me, “Become the best person you want to spend the rest of your life with.” Love this!
Have a beautiful day and never stop being just exactly who you are.

  16. I’m so sorry that the opportunity with that particular company didn’t work out! But I agree that the contacts you made and the things you learned will still serve you well as you move forward. I love the way you say that the right road is out there for you, and I believe you are right. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been upset because something didn’t work the way I thought it would, only to have an even better opportunity come along afterwards! The trick is to keep believing in yourself and to keep trying. And you are very good at both those things! All the best to you, Miriam!!

    1. You’re so right Ann, the trick really is to keep believing in ourself. The alternative is to give up and that’s no alternative. Thanks for your support and friendship. It means a lot to me.

  17. What can I say that you have not already said Miriam.. You ‘FEEL’ you are on the right path, and I know you know that when one door closes if we are open enough to see it, sure enough many more doors will open your way.. I know without a doubt that your gut is your compass, Keep being true to its guidance and all things are meant to be will be..
And I am sure without a shadow of a doubt at some future point in your road you will look back on your training and this particular course you were on as a stepping stone that led you to greater things..
Keep your intent focused upon making a difference.. I know you will. In fact You are making a difference to every one here who reads your words..
    Keep on Keeping on..
Love and Blessings my friend.. Its all about our Mindset and perception.. And loved Hubbies Quote… 🙂

  18. This is fabulous!!! Sooo inspirational, so motivating, so directional! You have learned a lot and shared even more, thank you for that. You have such a great perspective and mindset, you inspire me!! You are absolutely right, when something happens like this, it means something better is on its way….you’ll see, you’ll look back and so ahhh so that’s why. Not to digress but oh peee yuuuuuu….there is a skunk in my backyard and my windows are open….apparently he felt it necessary to spray becomes it has come in my windows and my room stinks right now…Ohhhh! GAG!!! So ha…it really stinks that they were shutdown but like Lily said there’s a rainbow and a pot of gold waiting for all of us to find…and I agree with you…we find it within us!! Rule Number One…Never, never be realistic!!! Big unrealistic hugs! xo ❤

  23. Miriam, you sure as hell DO make a difference in this world!! You are an extraordinary light and a constant inspiration. Never ever change. You put in so much hard work towards this goal, but it wasn’t for nothing, that I know for sure. You are a seeker, and like a sponge, you absorb every experience so that you can learn and take those lessons in a new direction. That is what you are doing now, and your influence is felt way over here on the other side of the world. There is a pot of gold inside of you and also a little bit of magic. What a beautiful soul you are. Thank you for being you and for showing us all how to pull up our bootstraps and live each moment the best way we can, because each one matters. I adore you. xoxo
