Trips, gears and a few laughs

“Because the greatest part of a road trip isn’t arriving at your destination. It’s all the wild stuff that happens along the way”.

I love that quote and the above photo (both of which are on my About Page). It sums up my philosophy.

Loving life on and off the tracks with plenty of thrills and spills along the way is my motto, even though sometimes it means I get mud in my face!

I’m not always on the road, far from it, but when we have a spare weekend, we’ll hook up the camper and head off. I know I’ve said it before, but I think I must have been a gypsy in a past life!

We’re nearly half way through the year and we’ve enjoyed camping trips to Yanakie, Walwa, Jamieson, the Great Ocean Road, the Otways and the High Country.

Today we headed to the Merindoc Cellar Door and Bistro in the hills near Heathcote where I had the best wood fired pizza ever! Sometimes those last minute day trips can be just as good.

Along the way there are always laughs, both on the road and off.

Like yesterday when I heard a skit that really made my day.

Have a listen to this prank call that so tickled my fancy I just had to share.

A radio station makes a prank call to a BMW dealer.

I’ll have to remind my son who’s learning to drive:

D for Day mode
N for Night mode
R for Race mode

Good thing he’s clued up and he knows the automatic transmission is really D for Drive, N for Neutral, R for Reverse. And P for Pass (haha).

I must have been in a warped mood, I just loved it.

Is D for drive or day?
R is for Race …

It makes me want to hit the road again. Even the cooler weather isn’t a deterrent, though, as hubby is working in Tasmania next week, my wonderlusting will have to wait, at least for the time being.

Enjoy your trips, whether it’s to a far flung destination or a trip down the street to a local cafe.

Hmm, anyone want to join me?

Enjoy it all as you never know what you’ll find, who you’ll meet and the delights you’ll eat.

Remember that road trips aren’t necessarily measured by miles but moments so be sure you’re making lots of memorable ones.

Life is short
Eat pizza
Drink wine
Be silly
Laugh uncontrollably
Love truly
and take that trip.

  1. That was hilarious! I laughed like anything. “I put it in Race mode and I hit the car behind me!” Still giggling over that one.
That looks like a sensational pizza and there’d be some good reds up Heathcote way to drink with it. 🙂

        1. Well my hubby was starting to have a problem so he decided to take the initiative to detox. I wanted to support him. He turned 70 yesterday and I’m so proud of him. x

  3. Wonderful post, Miriam … you bring out the wanderlust in me!! 😀 You’re right about the moments and Bank Holiday Weekend here in the U.K. and blissful days on the beach, BBQs in the garden. Heavenly to feel free and enjoy the warmth of outside!

It must be amazing to learn to drive in such open free roads, not clogged with traffic … and good your son is clued up in DNR!! Enjoy the days, my friend and hope it isn’t too long until your husband returns! 😀❤️

  4. You opening quote is so true on many levels. During the journey of life or to attain one’s goals, it is the adventure of the journey that we should enjoy and treasure, not the arrival. Great post. Have a wonderful week.

  5. Hello dear Miriam, such wonderful photos of your trips and I agree that it’s about moments that really make a trip memorable. I think the leaving ‘Home’ part simply acts as a catalyst for us to be more open and acutely aware of ‘those moments’…
    A gorgeous post.
    Thank you my friend 🙋🏻💜💜

  6. I love the reminder to enjoy the moments. I made that my goal for this next year, to enjoy all the precious little moments that make up a life, which means slowing down and staying present. I always appreciate your positive energy, Miriam!

  8. Love the flying mud out in the middle of no where and the ABILITY to fly through. Such a fun place to learn to drive. Reminds me of when my boys were first learning. Regarding the inevitable conversations about speed, I’d tell them, “That number there, the suggested 55 mph, is NOT A GOAL; it’s a guide and you don’t have to strive for that number.” They would laugh, but I hope they remember my words. Life is a series of moments…very true. Great post, Miriam. ❤

Fantastic shot. Hope your not travelling this weekend. It sounds as though you are in for some wild weather. Cheers Irene
