Summer Lovin’

I miss you …

your warm caress on my skin

and lingering gaze

burning me with its intensity

the heat when I’m near you too long.

Sultry nights of longing

waking up to the promise of your smile

and going to sleep with your memory

as your warmth disappears

I know you’ll come again.

Everything has to end, at least for a season, but as with most circles of life, it will come back again.

Summer in Melbourne feels like it was a lifetime ago and soon Autumn will be over. The year is flying by so fast.

The days are getting shorter and, being a summer lover, much like these birds, I’m feeling an urge to slow down time, to migrate.

Maybe that’s why I’m looking forward to our trip up north so much in June.

Goodbye summer

I love everything about summer, everything except the mosquitos. Like all seasons there are things we wish were different.

So much has happened this year.  Most recently I found a job, after three years out of the workforce, and then, unexpectedly, I lost it within five weeks.

I was touched by the amount of support from you, my blogging friends, for which I’m so grateful.

After the initial shock all I feel now is relief and a sense of moving towards something better.

I look around me and realise how much I have to be grateful for.  My blog was recently featured on A Wandering Memory, which was an absolute honor, thanks David.

I continue to draw inspiration from all of you, and amid the whirlwind of life.  Birds on the balcony, wind dried clothes, banana raspberry cake … the simple joys.

There are so many things to look at with mindful and appreciative eyes.

Now the leaves are fading and falling …

The road ahead is paved with new opportunities … I feel it in the air, it’s happening, sure as a new season will soon begin.

As Autumn colors slowly fade into  winter starkness I’m reminded that everything has a season and a reason.

As much as I love summer, winter holds hidden delights as well … for bonding, deep breathing and meditation, hearty soups and blanket hugs, rosy cheeks on cold morning walks and sleeping better at night.

Today I remind myself to:

  • enjoy the little things
  • step outside, rug up and enjoy nature
  • look with open eyes to find beauty in the ordinary
  • choose positive thoughts that will lead me forward.
  • trust that everything is exactly as it should be.

Wishing you all peace and clarity as you go about your journey.  Let’s look for the blessings and lessons in everything.

Seasons change and so do we.

Here’s to embracing and accepting all that is, and forging ahead wherever the road takes us.  Be happy and mindful in May.

  1. Your summer is ending and mine yet to come. We live on opposite sides of this beautiful planet, yet love what it offers. I’ll strike a deal with you. I shall take in the warmth of summer, and care for its beauty while you wait for its return, and I shall ask you to return the favor in perpetuity. ❤️

  2. Beautiful post, Miriam! Moving into a new season is often a time of reflection for me. Now I’m anticipating June, with warmer weather and my daughter’s college graduation. I’m looking forward to the longer days, eating outside, and the beach. But my favorite season is the fall. Enjoy your winter days, as I will our summer… soon enough the seasons will change 🌷gorgeous photos!!

  5. Beautiful post, Miriam… I agree that one of the keys to peace of mind and happiness is to look for beauty in small usual things. That way, you can feel surounded by it on a daily basis 🙂 Thank you for sharing the great pictures, and inspiring message! *hugs*

  6. Your autumn is fading – and we’re still waiting on spring! To be fair, we’ve had warmer weather and sun the past week or so (and no snow!) and leaves are finally unfurling.
Enjoyed the sunny photos and wise words here.

  7. A beautiful thoughtful post…I felt particularly blessed this morning as the sun is shining – it’s been grey and cold for weeks and Spring seemed to be on pause here in the UK. I’m glad you’re feeling more upbeat after the job loss and can look forward…and first of all that trip up North – look forward to reading / seeing all about it.😀❤️

    1. Hey, thanks Annika, yes we’re heading up the Red Centre towards Uluru, the outback and spiritual heart of Australia so I may well be off the grid for a bit. But I’m so excited about it. Enjoy all that sunshine Annika, sounds lovely. 🙂

  8. Hello dear Miriam,
You must think I’m so rude… I didn’t read prior about the unexpected loss of your job. I have so often wondered how it was going but I didn’t see you mention it so I didn’t want to ask…I understand that would be a challenge to accept but please keep kind to yourself…❤️
And now trust in the unexpected.
You have a lovely new adventure by the sound of it, while here we differ… we love the cool months beginning with the beautiful Autumn leaves you added here. Lovely inspiring words as always.

Sending you my warmest wishes dear Miriam. Hugs from me 💕🌟🌟

        1. No worries at all Di, Beware of Snakes was the name of my previous post, but it’s ok, truly. Life is busy for all of us, we can’t be expected to read everything. 🌑 💕 Enjoy the rest of the evening. Have you seen the full moon tonight? It’s beautiful. Hugs xo

No, I haven’t seen it but thank you for letting me know… it’s crept up on me so I’d best gather up my crystals and recharge them under it tonight. It’s another special one I read. I can’t believe the date already!!
I’ll go and admire and I’ll be in touch again tomorrow.
Hugs back to you, lovely lady 🙋🏻💕💕

        4. How fun Miriam. Yes, my little gems are all freshly charged ready for another month…. I’m just about to read your snakes post. I found it earlier and I’m pleased and relieved to report that I didn’t skim anything… I haven’t actually read it! Last week was not particularly good and my mind was scattered. All good now 🙋🏻💜💜

  10. Even though it’s Spring here, Miriam, I’ve still got goosebumps. I think maybe I need to fly south for the Summer, let alone the Winter! But I’m still smiling, hon, and enjoying whatever I can that comes along. As do you 🙂 🙂

  11. Lovely post, Miriam. There truly is a season and a reason for all. Know that bigger and better things are headed your way 💜 and what a perfect time to create the space and peace for it to come through – the quiet, still reset of winter. Blessings to you!

  13. So beautiful, Miriam! The change in seasons is non-existant here in Miami, but I still can feel the cycles of change as they come and there is something to look forward to through each one:) Here’s to a cozy winter for you!

  14. I feel so badly that you are heading into winter, when where I live, we are heading into summer! (And I am more than ready). But I love your attitude that accepts what is, looks for the good wherever you are, and is looking forward to the next summer which will head your way. That’s the way to live fully, I think.
PS: If you really miss summer, you are always welcome to come visit at my house anytime in the next three months!
    Take care, Miriam!

    1. Hmm, thanks for the offer. 🙂Don’t feel too bad Ann, in a couple of months we’ll be holidaying up central Australia where the temperatures are much warmer (though the nights are freezing apparently). Besides, I might just take you up on your offer and land at your place! How good would that be? 😊

  15. As I age I find I like the weather extremes less and less…although summer past was cooler than recent summers and wetter. With only about six weeks until the sun commences its journey down under again. It’s something I always look forward to, Miriam. Particularly with Collingwood faring so badly this year :-(.

  16. Oh yes Miriam.. life would stagnate if we didn’t have new seasons to enjoy and what wonderful photo’s to illustrate your message (synchronicity by the way with my post yesterday..) – enjoy the little things in our lives – as I get older, I realise these are definitely the important things in my life! xx

  17. Amazeballs!! As usual. Please, do no other type of work other than writing. You have the touch, the emotion, the sense, it is your vortex. You know how to connect with the reader. You draw us in and we journey along with you and nod with knowing of what you write. Don’t waste your time looking for any other job, this is your calling…do you hear it…Miri…Miri. I hear it! Yes there’s very little I like about winter and yet you have just made it so romantic for me that I almost long for it…I did say almost. Summer is my favorite season too. That shot of the ocean with the sailboats on it, is magnificent…it sparkles like diamonds…I love it!!! I might ask to borrow it for the background of one of my grateful posts. 😉 This writing could sell summer or winter…seriously. You are sleeping right now, I snuck this in at work, hehe. I hope you’re all warm and snuggled with your blanket hugs…I loved that. Wishing you a Fabulous Friday my dear friend. Talk soon. Blanket hugs and cuppa kisses xo

    1. Oh Deb, aren’t you just the best! You’ve totally made my morning with your amazing comment. You should be my agent! Seriously, with you and that sort of encouragement by my side I would be able to sell anything! Thank you dear friend.
As for my sailboat photo, you are absolutely more than welcome to use it. In fact I’d be honoured.
It sure doesn’t feel like summer here today. I’ve just come back from a walk through the wetlands with Harry and despite the sun shining it was freezing! My hands feel totally numb.
Hope you’ve had a good day at work Deb, one more day and it’s the weekend. In the meantime have a lovely peaceful evening as I head off to do some Friday chores. Big snuggly blanket hugs xo

      1. Hey if I were your agent that would be my new job too!! We’d both get what we want. Oh thank you so much about the photo, I want to come up with some very special words to go with it. It finally got a bit warmer today, it’s been so cold and raw here, not how it should be for May. They say next week it’s going to get into the 70s (that’s decent). Got my hair done tonight so you know how we love that…all pretty and not gray again!! 😉 My day at work was pretty good. There’s actually a job my hairdresser told me about that I may apply for. It’s a step down but as long as if it’s enough money it’s a step in the right direction, away from where I am now. Hope you got all your Friday chores done and enjoy a wonderful Friday afternoon. I’ll be off to bed soon, after I do my post for tomorrow. Big snuggly blanket hugs xo

        1. Whoah, good luck with that potential job Deb, how brilliant is that. I hope it turns out to be something wonderful. Doesn’t matter if it’s a step down, so long as it pays ok and most importantly you’re happy and working with good people. Good luck! But I still think you’d be better as my agent, haha. 😊
I love it when we get our hair done, I bet yours looks gorgeous. My greys are already starting to come out again, which is really annoying. Maybe going out tonight, just locally to hear a duet, a couple of brilliant musicians and guitarists, so that should be good. In the meantime I’m off to have some lunch while you’re probably already in bed, or soon will be. Sleep tight and dream of exciting new things. Love and hugs dear friend xo ❤️

  18. Hi Miriam. Lovely post. I really like your reminders at the end. All so important. It’s strange reading about you moving towards Winter, because for us here in the UK we are in spring – summer rmode, especially having just enjoyed almost a couple of weeks of glorious weather. I learnt last year, though, that each season has its own special gifts to offer. I enjoyed our last winter so much more by allowing myself to slow down and “hibernate” (as much as I could). I came out of it so much better recharged than in previous years. Love the photo of the white bird. He looks quite a character!! Best Wishes 🙂 x

    1. Hi Judith, thanks so much. It’s true isn’t it that every season holds its own blessings. As much as I prefer summer today was a freezing cold morning but it turned into a glorious afternoon. Hibernating sounds good. That’s what I might do too in the depths off winter. Enjoy heading into the warmer months. x 🙂

  19. I simply love the change of seasons! I can’t wait for summer days so I can walk around with a t-shirt, shorts and flip flops and the suns warmth on my skin. Spring just doesn’t want to leave these parts of the world. Ha. Enjoy your time of contemplation and hibernation. It’s good for our souls.
