Loving the Connection

It’s Valentine’s Day and my husband’s gone again. Left in a taxi two days ago, bags and all.

For the next two weeks he’s working interstate. It’s the longest we’ve spent apart. He was away at the same time last year as well, when I wrote Loving my World.

What’s with the timing?  I mean, doesn’t his company realise it’s Valentine’s Day?

Please note the sarcasm.

Neither of us are into the hype and commercialism of Valentine’s Day. He’s never been much of a flowers and chocolates guy which is okay.  I can buy my own Lindt and Turkish Delight!

We go out for dinner when we feel like it and fancy ‘hyped up’ restaurants are few and far between.

Some of our ‘finest dining’ has been under the stars with priceless views.

We have our own version of a dirty weekend. It’s called mud therapy.

I know he loves me. We tell each other daily and he shows me, in simple gestures … he makes me cups of tea (without me asking), he cooks the BEST Thai green curry and he makes me laugh. Oh, and he gives a pretty good foot and neck rub (when I can convince him).

After nearly 25 years of being married to him I know I’m in the right place, whether or not he’s here with me today.

Plus we still have heaps of exciting trips to take together.

BUT while the cat’s away, this little Miri mouse is going to play.

So this post is dedicated to my friends and the special connections I have in my life, that’s YOU my fellow bloggies.

The online friendships I’ve made here are very real and yesterday became even more so.

On Monday I finally met Louise, a lovely blogger from my part of the world who totally inspired me with her journey trekking to Base Camp in Nepal. We’ve kept in touch ever since.

Over a few hours of tea, coffee and decadent pastries at Second Home in Eltham we shared stories about ourselves, our families, our travels and goals and of course our blogging.

We laughed, shed a tear or two (okay, that was me being Miss Sentimental) and left a few hours later having forged an even stronger connection. Bloggers united.

I wish I could do that with all of you. But alas, it’s not that easy. Unless you can somehow win your way over here with some Vision Board dreaming (yes, I’m talking about you Wendy)  I’ll have to make do with virtual hugs across the ocean and lengthy chats.

You know I love my chats.

Here’s to strengthening those connections this Valentines Day, both here in the blogosphere and in everyday life.

Here’s to love, to couples and, to those of you who are alone here’s to forging the ultimate  connection.

feel-good-quotes-1

What a great excuse to:

  1. Grab that book you’ve been putting off reading, snuggle up and get lost in another world.
  2. Sit outside and watch the sun set, breathing in the stillness and contentment of life.
  3. Play your favorite music, light a candle and fill the house with the sensuous scent of peace and quiet.
  4. Cook your favorite meal and open a bottle of wine. Raise a toast to life!
  5. Watch that movie you’ve been longing to for ages. Cry, laugh, let it all out.
  6. Get dressed up and take yourself out for the day.

Make the choice to be happy, whether you’re alone and single or married and in a relationship.  Remember, in the end that choice is up to you.

Here’s to strong and loving connections, not just on Valentine’s Day but every day.

Let’s spread the love fearlessly, starting with ourselves.

Here’s to loving life, loving each other and staying connected.

(Now I’m off to read that book in bed. The good thing about being alone is I get to stay up late and read, with the light on, as late as I want!)

  1. Happy belated Valentine’s Day, Miriam. We don’t make a big deal about Valentine’s Day, either, after nearly 22 years of marriage. I usually just cook a nice dinner and he and the boys and I dine together by candlelight at home. I completely agree that the best part of blogging are the connections we make with other bloggers. It was one of the biggest and best surprises when I started my blog. Thanks for sharing 🙂

    1. My pleasure Kim. Thanks for stopping by. Happy belated Valentine’s Day to you too. Dining by candlelight sounds nice, we do it quite a bit too and often for no particular reason. 🙂

        1. Hmm, similar. Here the sun is also shining and the air is getting decidedly cooler. No flowers are blooming on any of my trees as Lamby has deflowered everything. lol

  2. Miriam! I love your sincerity in this post and I admire the connected community you have built. You were one of the first people to support my blog and I am grateful for that! Cheers to you!!! Jess

  3. You and your beloved have discovered the truth that Valentine’s Day is every day when you are with the right person. Valentine’s Day lives in the heart, not the calendar. 🙂 Congratulations on that! Even though you had to spend the day apart, you have other days to share chocolate and wine and good food. And other things. 😉

So happy you got to meet a blogger friend! ❤
