Feeling Grateful

I’ve had so many gremlins on my blog lately. Broken pages and ping backs, comments disappearing into spam folders and for a while (I’ve since found out) my posts were taken off the Reader. I can tell you that this little cookie hasn’t been a very happy vegemite. But things are getting sorted and in the grand scheme of things they’re minor.

Today I woke and thought about my world and all I have to be grateful for. My family and my friends.  Don’t you love it when you reconnect with a friend you haven’t seen for ages and pick up the friendship like it was yesterday.

A few nights ago I had dinner with Lily, a close girlfriend who I hadn’t seen for ages. It was a night full of both laughter and tears as we opened up and shared our lives over the past year. It made us both realise that life is too short not to grab the things we want, not to give our friendship more time and priority.

It reminded me of what’s beautiful and needs nourishing in my life.

These colorful pansies are from my front garden. I’m enjoying getting my hands in the earth and the feeling of invigoration at the end of each day.  It’s a work in progress but slowly my run down garden (neglected from the year I spent with mum) is beginning to show life and color again.

This bunch of colorful blooms was given to me by Lily on the night we caught up.

They’re still looking vibrant and taking pride of place in my lounge room. I know they’ll last only a short time but they remind me to be grateful for all I have.

Underneath the vase of flowers sits a current magazine with one of my most recent articles published in it on the Flinders Ranges.  It’s always a buzz to see my articles in print and this one was no exception. It still ranks as one of my favorite out back trips.

And tonight, looking out my back yard, there was Lamborghini, doing her best to keep my grass low. She adds a distinct air of tranquility to my life and for the moment I’m grateful, not just for her lawn mowing prowess but her sheer presence in my world.

As for those spam gremlins on my blog, Harry my not-so-fierce but ever-loving hound, has vowed to keep them away.  Would you be scared of this face?

On a balmy spring night in Melbourne I’m sending warm wishes of love and light to all my blogger friends here and around the world.

Cheers to a happy weekend where we can be grateful for all we have around us, see the beauty in the ordinary and make the most of every moment.

  1. Hahaha! Gremlins… Good one, Miriam.
Yes, life is unique and short and we have to give more time to family, friends and other stuff that are valuable for us. We have to throw all the Gremlins from our life and forget them.
Beautiful article, Miriam, as always 🙂
    Hugs and kisses,
    Monica ❤

P.S.1. – Congrats for the published article. I would love to be published one day, too.
P.S.2. – Harry is too cute to could scare someone :))

    1. Oh yeah, I know, Harry wouldn’t scare a fly, let alone a gremlin! 🙂
Thanks for your kind words my friend. Hope you’re having a lovely weekend. It’s great to hear from you, I thought you were off the grid. xo

    1. Oh yeah, Lamby (for short) is a super charged one. She’s only here for a short time but is definitely making her presence felt.
As for Harry, well maybe he can scare the gremlins away with the loud snoring in his sleep, that’s about the most ferocious he gets. 🙂

  5. I’m glad you’re finally managing to shoo those gremlins away. On being grateful for the everyday things – I’ve just managed to wash and dry on the line three loads of washing. I love these mild windy nights. 🙂 And how wonderful to reconnect with an old friend. Those are some of the best catch ups.

  9. Ah there you are in the reader for my morning cuppa. I tell I going crazy looking for you a week or more ago , scrolling backwards and forwards thinking you normally post mid week, where were you, are you alright. Phew adesso tutto aposto in Blogland.
Harry does take some fetching shots… X Louise

  10. Love and light to you, too, Miriam! Beautiful photos. Just want you to know that I thought I was following you. For some odd reason last night I was thinking, “Miriam doesn’t post much, does she?” I decided to go to my reader and from there realized I wasn’t actually following you. There are a few blogs, yours included, that show up funny on my reader, as in I can’t tell if I’m following or not following, so I click follow, unfollow, follow, unfollow, and never know which one is which. Now I’ve come to realize that if it says “unfollow” that means I’m following you. Sorry for all this craziness, but I’m glad to be following you finally.

    1. Hi Kim, don’t worry, the craziness has been at my end too! As you would have read in this post I’ve had all sorts of issues with my posts not showing up in the Reader, spammed comments and the like. But hopefully it’s all sorted now. And I’m so glad you’re here Kim. Thanks for persevering.

  11. Oh, sorry for all the issues you’ve been having, but glad it’s sorted now. I agree. Life is too short to spend it being surrounded by negative people. I’ll quote here what someone very wise said to me many many years ago — It isn’t life that is difficult; it is people who make it so. Have you found that, I have. Keep calm and carry on regardless! Lovely flowers.

  12. A beautiful post, Miriam and thank you for your warm spring wishes from Melbourne. The flowers are a flourish of colour to our Autumn and so kind of your friend to bring them for you. Friendships are truly precious and something to take time to treasure. In the midst of a whirlwind of activity here I wrote an invitation for my mother for us to take a lunch on the coast this Wednesday to celebrate what would have been my grandfather 100th birthday – I know without this formal commitment we would just let the special day slip away. Congratulations on your article and yeah, I can well imagine your buzz at seeing your name in print. Another reason to celebrate with friends!

    1. Hi Annika, I’m so sorry that I missed this comment, lost in my blog. Especially given that you spoke so fondly on what would have been your grandfathers 100th birthday. I hope it was a special rememberance celebration. I hope you’re well Annika.

  13. I’m so sorry you’re having issues with your blog! I know how frustrating that is, and hope it is over. If you have more problems, sic Harry on them! And you are so right about the joy of reconnecting with an old friend. There are few things better, and it does remind us of all that we have to be grateful for. Thanks for this honest and inspiring post!

    1. Thanks Ann, yes in our busy lives it’s too easy to let time slip by without contacting friends. It’s always good to remember what’s important. As for the blog issues, hopefully they’re sorted. Not sure Harry was much use though!

  14. Miriam, thank you for this. I’m looking to make some changes in my life, especially with my location and possibly work, and you just reminded me of the truth – there are so many blessings and much to be grateful for.
My spiritual teacher J-R has guided me before to “look for the good” – it’s so good to keep this front and center! Big hugs. Blessings — Debbie
ps – you have a wonderful way of eliciting the experience that you’re writing about in others. (I really felt the gratitude that you were expressing) It’s a lovely gift.

  15. I hate it when technology goes awry! 😦 It must have been a nightmare! Loved those blooms. Spending time with old friends is something that I miss a lot. These days, I’ve been making many new friends, but hardly forging any relationships. I seem to be more connected with the bloggers (like yourself) who have been following me for a while. Your posts always make me feel optimistic and ready to kickstart the week! Thanks so much! 🙂

    1. Hi Cheryl, I’m happy to be able to kick start your week! Hopefully it’s an awesome one for you and you’ll get to meet some new friends. Although I agree with you, I’m also more connected this days to my blogging friends. Maybe because we share so much. 🙂

  16. Oh how I feel for you. My Pinterest with 92 boards has completely disappeared and I don’t have the faintest idea why. Pinterest isn’t being forthcoming with a solution either, so I am not stressing but just a teensy bit frustrated by it. I expect it is my computer in some way. Hoping for a visit from tech savvy son in the next few weeks will sort things out. I’m pleased your garden is bringing you joy and who could not love Lamborghini’s grin. Yes friends matter, they matter very much. x

    1. Hi Barbara, sounds like we’ve both been in the IT wars. Sorry to hear about losing your Pinterest, what an absolute bugger! Hopefully it can be sorted or your tech savvy son can save the day. If he’s anything like mine you’ll have them back in no time.
      Have a great week Barbara.

  17. Oh goodness, not showing up in the Reader either?! You did get hit hard! I’m sorry you’ve had that mess on your plate as well and hopefully things will all be straightened out sooner rather than later.

Your flowers filled me with a happy sigh. I love the colors! And how nice to see your garden growing again! I bet it felt good to re-connect with the good earth.

And your friend! Flowers from Lily – there is something so perfect in that! 😀

I’m happy you got a chance to have a nice visit, to have an article in print (woohoo!), and to play in the soil. Life is good. 🙂

    *hugs* ❤

PS – per your line, "It reminded me of what’s beautiful and needs nourishing in my life," don't forget to include your lovely self. ❤
