Walking Cape Schanck

What is it about water that draws and fascinates us?  Is it a primal thing, from when we were in the womb, or is simply that, along with air, we simply can’t live without it. Whatever it is I know that for me whenever we go camping, I’m at my most content when I’m near a river, lake or better still a beach.

Last weekend we took the opportunity to head to the rugged coast of Cape Schanck on the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria. I was hankering for the ocean so this place, less than two hours from Melbourne, was perfect for a bit of seaside therapy.

On the Cape Schanck boardwalk I found a vast expanse of beauty and invigorating peace.

It was just what I needed to clear the cobwebs and shift my perspective. From the sadness of the past to the possibilities of the future.

On the board walk our senses are treated to a wild landscape and dramatic beauty.

It was the perfect place for an afternoon stroll with good friends.

Aside from the glorious views the circuit board walk to the Cape offers a decent workout.

Back near camp we enjoyed a walk along the beach and jetty at Blairgowrie relishing the last of the sunlight before evening rain hit us. It was easy to be seduced by the sounds of rolling waves, the smell of the sea and the feel of sea shells under foot. Fuel for the senses.

Savoring a rainbow and watching the skies change before our eyes was a perfect way to end the afternoon.

Living in the moment is what camping and traveling is all about to me. Enjoying the simple pleasures outside, the vastness of nature and the beauty that surrounds us.

May we always appreciate what’s right in front of us every day.

Wishing you all sunny days and beautiful skies, where ever you are.  May we all enjoy our walks and remember to stop and smell the roses and all the other amazing things along the way.

  1. Wonderful! Of all my walks this week, Miriam, this is the one I feel a yearning for. That breath of air in the lungs and the pure beauty of the rocks and ocean. There’s nothing quite like it! I’m so looking forward to returning to my Algarve. It’s very similar in places. Thank you so much and wishing you joy 🙂 🙂

    1. Ah Jo, you said it so well, “that breath of air in the lungs and the pure beauty of the rocks and ocean …” I can feel it even as I type the words. Yes, that’s what it’s all about. Glad you can relate and hope you enjoy your trip back to the Algarve. xo

  2. It’s interesting that you mention the positive effect of water on our psyche. I was just reading an article today encouraging people around here to go out and visit the waterfalls. With the recent massive rains, they’re spectacular at the moment. But one of the points made in the article is that it can also make us feel good to stand at a gushing waterfall and watch and hear the water. I feel a day trip to the Otways may be in order these holidays. 🙂

  3. I feel the same way about water, and really wish I lived near the ocean or a large lake. That’s one of the reasons we vacation in Florida so often: the chance to be by the ocean! Still, I have noticed that there is something to savor wherever I am. Driving just a little ways out of the city, I am surrounded by hills covered with forests, and those are calming to look at. When I lived in Kansas, the flat terrain meant that we saw a lot of the sky, and that was the first time in my life I realized just how beautiful the sky could be. You are right, there is beauty everywhere if we just are open to seeing it! Thanks, Miriam, and hope you have a wonderful day!

    1. Hi Ann, I love your perspective here. It’s all about appreciating where ever we are isn’t it? So often we wish for this and wish for that, wasting the moment, but I try and be mindful these days where ever I am, just as you obviously do.
Thanks for your lovely comment. xo

  4. Lovely photos, Miriam! I agree with your reflections about the water. I grew up about an hour from the coast but now live in a very land-locked place. I am so blessed that I found an apartment on a little man-made pond. It brings me so much joy! Even though the pipes freeze in the winter and it is as drafty as a barn, I will never move as long as I live in the Midwest! My backyard ducks, and the occasional egret and turtle, and the sun shining off of the water make all the little inconveniences worth it! Wishing you a lovely week ahead!

    1. You’ve painted such a lovely picture Lulu (well, except for the pipes freezing in the winter!) that I feel I have a real sense of where you live. How lucky you have all those lovely water friends around you. Thank you for sharing that. I hope you have a lovely week ahead too. xo
