Yarnbombing on a Mundane Monday

It’s not every Monday that a lamb goes to school but that’s what happened today. My daughter took Lamborghini in for a couple of hours and exposed her to a bit of informal education.  Here she is on her return.  Does she look any smarter?

My day was otherwise gray.  Gray skies matching my average mood. But sometimes all we need to do is look around to find something that makes us smile.  And that’s exactly what happened when I went down the street today.

Then I looked across the road to something that’s been there for a long time, three years in fact.  A yarn bombing design of a steam locomotive and carriages on the wire fence that’s in front of our railway station. Some pretty impressive street yarn art.

This is like the biggest doily I’ve ever seen.  It took sixty women over four months to create several metres of this train yarn, a street art community project that was made to celebrate 100 years of trains to this little patch of mine.

It adds a unique spark and creativity to our main street and it’s something that I drive by everyday, yet I’ve never stopped to photograph it.

As we start a new week let’s look around and find the extraordinary in the ordinary and enjoy those moments of life that might seem mundane but in fact can be marvelous.

There was a silver lining out there somewhere tonight!

This is in response to Jithin’s Mundane Monday Challenge #69 – a challenge  created to find beauty in almost everything. The challenge is simple : find beauty in everyday mundane things and frame it beautifully.

As I settle in for a wild and windy night in Melbourne let’s always try and find the silver lining in those gray clouds.

        1. He, whoops she, is very cute. She’s currently sleeping right in front of our Coonarra … not a bad life for a kid who was initially rejected by its mum.

        2. Oh yes. He’s named, and drinking milk. 🙂 He looks just like mom’s new cat, Sara. Their noses and mouths are different. And, she’s 8 and we think he’s around 1. ❤️

  8. Wonderful message in this blog. Sometimes the average days are the worst, when you feel a bit “bleh”, but they’re also the easiest to pick up and turn around by finding little things to appreciate 🙂 The world needs more Yarn Bombing!

    And you are right, there is always a silver lining. Even in our darkest times, there are always reason to be grateful and to maintain hope.

  12. Wow! Larborghini is sooo cute! I could imagine my daughter hugging him, hehehe!
    An that yarn work is totally incredible. It must have taken such very long days to finish all that! I admire the patience of all the people involved in making that…but it’s all worth it! It’s beautiful work of art. Thank you for sharing Miriam.
    I hope you had some colors added on your otherwise grey mood. We really do have those kind of days sometimes…I even had my own minutes of frustrations on my birthday, LOL! But then again, we’ve got to choose to look for the sunshine! 🙂

    1. Thanks Nina, his birthday is next week. And yours? It sounds as though you’ve already had it. I hope it was wonderful, despite some minutes of frustrations! We all have them don’t we, even on the supposed “best” of days. Hope the week ahead is a good one. I’m counting down the days until my hubbs comes home from interstate!   14. Love the sheep’s name 🙂 adorable! She does look quite preppy. And that’s some crazy yarn art — in my city people like to knit cozies for the trees in the fall…That’s always fun!

    I like the idea of the Mundane Monday Challenge, haven’t heard of that one before. Maybe I’ll give it a try?

    1. I think you’re right, Lamborghini often has a smile, I guess life can’t be too stressful as a lamb … especially one living in a suburban backyard! 🙂

  20. Thanks for the reminder to look for beauty and inspiration in the our everyday surroundings! And I’ve never seen yarn art like that…it was really cool! Is that common in your area? I wish we had it here!

    1. Thanks Ann and yes, I do live in an artistic area. Around me in the hills there are heaps of artists studios, ceramics, paintings, yarning, sculptures, lots of mediums, it’s a wonderful area I have to admit.

  22. One of the reasons I enjoy coming here (the photography is a given) is to be exposed to new things, it happens frequently on your blog. I’ve never seen anyone yarn bomb a fence, or yarn bomb anything for that matter. I hope poor little Lamborghini didn’t get nervous around all that yarn.

    1. Haha No, Lamborghini is oblivious to most things. 🙂 And yes I’m pretty lucky to live in such an artistic community. Sometimes I take it for granted but through my blog I feel as though it’s all coming to life again. Thanks for your kind words Steve.
