An Orange Glow

I love a sunburnt country, a land of sweeping plains, of ragged mountain ranges, of droughts and flooding plains. I love her far horizons, I love her jewel-sea, her beauty and her terror, the wide brown land for me (part of My Country by Dorothea McKellar).

When Frank at Dutch goes the Photo posted his latest photo theme “orange” I immediately thought of vivid sunsets from our travels throughout Australia, of red/orange mountain ranges in the Flinders Ranges and places in between. Let me take you on a mini-tour of my land down under.

Our travels often lead to unexpected delights, like this brightly colored lighthouse on the Limestone Coast.
Lake Colac Sunset (800x600)
I’ll never forget the orange glow over Lake Colac, where we camped right on the shore. Who needs television with a view like this?
Tash and Harry paddling (533x800)
Canoeing is such a peaceful way to connect with nature.  Here’s my daughter and Harry at the helm, enjoying a sunset paddle on the glowing Murray River.
Colorful rocks at the prom (800x600)
Amid the pristine sea and sand, vibrant colored rocks stand out at Whiskey Bay, Wilsons Prom National Park

At Lake Bonney a water skier skims over an orange waterscape. It was the ultimate free entertainment and we had front row seats  on the jetty.

I’m hardly in the league of Taylor Swift but it was fun playing guitar around the warm glowing coals of a campfire –  in tune with nature
Orange fire2 (800x533)
Camping’s just not the same without a blazing fire.
The Remarkables
On Kangaroo Island the Remarkable Rocks live up to their name.

A jewel sea, crowned by Mother Nature’s glory, never fails to inspire me.

Orange is such an uplifting and happy color and feels like an anecdote to a sometimes gray and depressing world.  At home we even have a feature wall in our lounge room that’s painted burnt orange. For me the color radiates warmth and energy.

May we always lift our eyes and find the beauty in our surroundings, whether it’s a vibrant sunset, golden leaves on a tree or just a painted wall.

There’s so much around us to be grateful for. Every day, every new sunrise.

It might not always be easy but if we can stay thankful for the little things and mindful of the larger things we’ll have a more peaceful heart.

Let’s keep enjoying the journey and make it a colorful one.

In response to Frank’s Tuesday Photo Challenge on Orange.

  1. What an awesome set of photos– The one of the sunset at Lake Colac and the Arkaroola road were my favorites! I never thought of grouping photos by a dominant color– striking collection. Fun post Miriam!

  7. Miriam, this certainly is a fantastic collection of images filled with orange of many hues! Those rocks are really fascinating, as the orange almost looks like lichen, but I suspect that it isn’t.

    Thanks!!
