Partners in Crime

I’ve been with my man for 27 years and married to him for 24.  I worked with his older brother in a Partnership Law firm which is how I met him.  It’s ironic because I worked on the conveyancing for his house and then I ended up marrying him and living in it.  Life is weird and wonderful.

Partnerships come in all shapes and sizes but the most important one is often with the person we spend our lives with.  In all the years we’ve been together our partnership has been a solid one, but I have to admit, like all relationships, we’ve had our testing times.

We’ve traveled to so many places together.  And inevitably along the way we’ve got lost.

Trying to find our way at the Prom

Sometimes he drives me nuts, when we can’t agree.   But we generally work things out. That’s the beauty of being with a partner for a long time.  Compromise.

I can also be a bit too snap-happy. And I often wonder whether I should just enjoy the moment more and let go of the camera or phone.  But I love taking photos and creating memories.  It’s fun being able to look back at our silly moments.

And we have many of them.

Jumping in at the deep end (800x600)

Whether it’s jumping in at the deep end or trying something new, life’s all about taking risks and having courage. And as partners we always back each other up.

When times are hard he’s there for me. He’s been my rock this year and keeps me grounded.  Plus he makes me laugh, which is one of the things I love most about him.

Mind you, there are times when I ignore his advice.

Guility of sometimes losing touch with reality (600x800)

Sometimes I engross myself into other worlds, like a good book or WordPress, and guilt creeps in because of the time that I spend on it.

But he’s becoming more understanding as he sees how important it is to me.

2 coffees (800x600)

A treat helps.  Neither of us can resist our sweet indulgences … coffee, chocolate, red wine.  And when two of us share the same wicked treats life is always better!

Chuckes and Harry (800x600)

Harry and Chuckles think so too.  They’ll do anything for some attention … and a treat.

Together in the sunset (800x600)

Yep, we’re definitely partners in crime.

The ultimate crime was when he stole my heart.  And that happened a long time ago so I guess it’s a life sentence.  One I’ll happily commit to.

At the end of the day, where ever we are, so long as he’s by my side the world is right.

Wishing you all happiness, love, laughter and peace with the ones that you love, whether you have a family, a partner or a dog.

No man is an island, partners are for life.

  3. Great post. Don’t know why, but it brings back memories of the time we met a couple that were celebrating their 30th wedding anniversary. We could proudly tell them that it was our 3th month anniversary.

  4. Miriam, you two are awesome! Too dang bad we live so far apart, cuz I’m pretty sure we’d be friends. Hubs and I celebrated 35 years this year, and we are partners in crime, just like the two of you! What a great post and fun pics. And just for the record, Chuckles really does look like he’s laughing! Thanks again! ~Lynn

  6. So lovely, Miriam. I see parallels here with the crimeship I share with my hubby of almost 33 years. The connection deepens through the years, and how much is something I had not expected. 🙂

    1. Thanks Andrew and you’re right, life is a journey and worth documenting. Especially when we get older and have trouble remembering all the fun we used to get up to! 🙂

  8. Life is so much better when we share it with the right partner! I don’t believe there is any such thing as the perfect marriage, but for me, the question is always, “Am I better off with this person, or without him?” And the answer is always a resounding, “with!!!”
And don’t feel guilty about all this photos…I take them too, because how else can I be sure of remembering all the great things I get to see and experience? You take terrific photos…keep it up!

    1. Thanks Ann, on all counts. And I tend to agree with you about the perfect bit. No one and no marriage is perfect but I do know that my life is infinitely better with him in it.

  9. Congratulations Miriam, it takes a lot of effort, understanding, communication and most importantly a sense of humor to make a relationship. You two obviously have all the right ingredients. I get what you are saying about the pictures but without them you don’t have the moment captured so that you can relive it over and over without forgetting any details. I’m so happy for you both! xo 🙂

  10. This is lovely. Such a beautiful and also honest account of marriage. I love the quote about walking beside me. That is VERY important! I can’t image not having my partner in crime! 🙂

  11. The way you met him is like a story straight out of the books 🙂 So amazing when you think back isn’t it 🙂 I could relate to many many things in your post Miriam 🙂 We running behind the camera, guilty of spending a lot of “me-time” , hard times in life 🙂 And in the end we are so blessed and happy to have lead our years with that one person right 🙂 I enjoyed the read and am so happy for you two. Keep inspiring us young fellas 🙂 Incidentally, this 26th was our 7 years of love-versary and 2 years of wedding anniversary 🙂 I had written a post about how my man inspires me to be a better person 🙂 And your post was like more or less the kind of one I hope to write a few years down the lane with the blessings of the Lord.
