Have you ever wandered through the back streets of a city and stumbled onto something really special? Like inspiring street art, a cafe with amazing vibes, a tourist attraction you didn’t know about.
Or maybe a singer with a great voice. This happened to me in Sydney a couple of years ago.
We were walking through The Rocks precinct when his voice drifted to us. It was mesmorizing. When we found him there he was, in all his cuteness, busking with his guitar in the sunshine. We joined a small crowd and that was it. I was hooked.
His voice is smooth and hypnotic. Mellow and so easy to listen to. Looking back I’m surprised I didn’t take photos but it was one of those times when I just got lost in the moment, the pure enjoyment of his music. It was a highlight of our weekend in Sydney.
I became his newest fan and then and there bought his CD, Let the River Run
Fast forward two years. Last Saturday he played at The Toff in town, a small intimate venue in the heart of Melbourne. We had front row seats with a perfect view. Once again I took very few photos. Hubby took a couple but I just lost myself in his voice again. The intimate and very classy performance passed way too quickly.
Diane from LadiesWhoLunchReviews posted last week, if we were stuck in an elevator with a rock star who would it be? No surprises by now. Mark Wilkinson may not be a rock star but he can serenade me indefinitely, or at least until they fix the lift!
I guess I never really knew the strength I had
To keep from falling
I guess I never really knew the lengths I’d go
To keep from losing my control
I guess I never really knew the fire I lit
Would keep on burning
I guess I never really knew the path I took
Was the only road I’d ever walk
But oh, when the weight it comes
Sometimes it gets hard to breathe
Till I hear it calling
Softly calling
Out to me
Saying come on, come on
Lift it to the ceiling
And sing it with some feeling
Lift it from the water
So we can keep this love high
So we can keep this love dry
I guess I never really knew the words I wrote
Would keep me breathing
I guess I never really knew that darling
You’re the fire that burns inside my soul
Well you burn inside my soul …
Sharing with Nurturing Thursday.
Just beautiful, Miri. Thanks for the mention, my friend!

I think we all have a talent we may not have discovered yet. It may take time, or a push from a friend to find it. Maybe something we see or feel will bring it out. Maybe we know it’s there, we just dare not believe it’s true. Life is full of risk, but just like Mark, you never know until you try.

Yes, I have very fond memories of our journey by car around Tassy…especially back to Hobart from the north, travelling down the east coast. 😉 Hugs!

I love live music! In Perth we have so many free concerts during the summer months and we make the most of it going to most of them.

I find that back streets are always more interesting than the beaten roads, simply because you don’t know what you can find. As you show in this example. I will have to check out Mark Wilkinson. Have to admit I don’t know anything about him. 🙂

If you’re into acoustic music and soulful singing I think you’ll enjoy his stuff.

He is easy on the eyes, with a smooth voice. Definitely won’t mind serenaded in an elevator with him.

FIrst… that picture of the bridge… my God are there people on top of that thing? I’m flipping out with my fear-of-heights from here!
I love the song… a man with a guitar. 🙂 He reminds me of someone but I can’t place it at the moment. I will have to let you know if I figure it out! 🙂

You’re the first person who’s mentioned the people on the bridge. I wandered if anyone would notice them. They’re skywalking across the Sydney Harbour Bridge. Believe it or not people pay to do that. They’re in a harness but regardless, you wouldn’t catch me up there. And I know you definitely wouldn’t either!
Yeah, Mark is great. I love acoustic guitar at the best of times but combined with a smooth voice and cute looks, I could listen to this guy for hours. 🙂

Oh my God! Those people are insane! I don’t think I could do it if someone paid ME a few million! I’d freak out and fall off.:D At first I thought I was seeing things because no one would be insane enough to be up there! Wrong! Hahaha

Yep, wrong. They’re up there … and they’ve paid a lot of money to be up there. Crazy insane, I agree. (Mind you, if someone offered me a million, maybe I’d consider it … ) 🙂

I’d probably consider it.. but then faint or something. 😀

Wow. You are so lucky 🙂 You got a chance to be a part of the concert of the once heard beautiful voice 🙂 And you know what, I can so well relate to you on this. Not the concert part , but the getting lost in a performance and forgetting to capture the moment. Last week we had been to Central Park in NYC and we had the chance to see so many talented people’s performances. There was a lady who was absolutely weaving magic with her violin and I kept telling myself that I should either videograph it or take a photo, but I was so lost in her serenade of music and could not do either. Such a beautiful world isn’t it 🙂

It absolutely is. 🙂 Sometimes we just have to live the moment. Enjoy it, soak it up and let it weave it’s magic, just like you said Minaxi. And it seems like you did just that in NYC, good for you. Sounds absolutely wonderful. Keep enjoying! 🙂
