Lately I’ve been exploring close to home and today was no exception but what I found was fairly typical of what’s in many rural communities. Mostly.
Like this cow who eyed us as we stopped. She looked pretty relaxed, and why wouldn’t she with no stress, a lush paddock to enjoy and a view of the city.
Then I came across something else. In a tree. Only, it’s not what what you’d expect.
I had to get out for a closer look. Sure enough it was a bear. But not the typical koala bear type. Poor thing was totally hung. In fact it looked altogether stuffed!
I’m not sure what his story is but he looked kind of sad. And it made me wonder how and why he got up there. He looks definitely out of his comfort zone.
Much like my son was today. He went on a school excursion into the city today and it was a day of firsts for him. The first time he’d ever been on a train by himself. The first time he ordered a meal at a fast food place, all by himself. And the first time he gave money to a homeless person, all by himself. He’s always been a quiet, reserved, sensitive boy so these achievements were huge for him. I’m so proud of him
And then I think back to the bear up the tree. My kids always loved their soft toy bears but none ever ended up in trees. Whose was it? Did it once belong to someone who loved it but needed it no more. What was the story there? I’ll probably never know.
What I do know is that it gives a whole new meaning to “how much can a Koala bear?”
Happy Hump day everyone. Hope the rest of your week is a good one.
And hopefully Thursday’s more bearable than today..
Cute bear sentiments. Thank you, Miriam! Nice to hear about your son stepping out and up. Mine sounds similar. ❤️ Tiffany

Well the bear has me scratching my head also. Has it suddenly appeared? It is it the first time on this track? He’s certainly not having a picnic. This could be a new thing – Teddy bombing – as opposed to yarn bombing.
Well done to your son. Happy Hump day to you too. Louise

Teddy bombing, that’s cute! Thanks Louise, never seen him before, maybe he’ll be gone next week.

Congratulations to your son on his achievements. As for the bear, it obvious he must have had help getting up there since the doesn’t have toes or claws. My money’s on that suspicious-looking cow.

Thanks Bun and yep, I think you might be right. The cow looks to be a prime suspect. 🙂

Oh my son would be wrecked to see that poor bear up a tree. He collects bears and loves them dearly! I LOVE the cow. I went on a trip to Kansas 2 years ago and couldn’t get enough photos of all the cows!!
How very proud you must be of your son for accomplishing all of those firsts!! Tell him I said Well done!!

That poor bear! I don’t know whether to laugh or cry at him up there all by his lonesome in the tree!
Yay for your son! Those accomplishments are so huge at that age!
The cow – lol, she’s got a look on her that tells me she’s not sure what to think about you taking her picture. 😀

So, your son had a lot of experiences today all by himself. I know you’re a proud mom, but I think he’s proud of himself, too.
Nice to hear that, dear Miriam 🙂

I have cows right down the road from me where I currently live, so I guess I’ve grown accustomed to seeing those fellows a bit too frequently for my liking. But I can’t say I’ve ever seen a teddy bear hanging from a tree like that. It’s almost heartbreaking, wondering what his story is.
I’m glad your son had such a great day, though! What a feeling of accomplishment and pride it must be for both of you. 🙂

Yeah, definitely is. And I agree about the cows but for some reason I couldn’t resist taking a photo of this one.

Do you know the story of The Velveteen Rabbit Miriam? The bear in tree has echoes of the threadbare rabbit who is left behind after his young owner becomes seriously ill and eventually becomes “real”…magic

Love your comment Hannah. I do know that story, I love it and used to read it to my daughter all the time when she was little. And you’re right … maybe I should go back there in a while and see if he’s still there …

Well done to your son, Miriam. Poor Mr. Bear. He’s huge and looks very unloved. 😦 The cow isn’t smiling either. 🙂

Good for your son! My son is also a bit cautious and a bit of a worrier (wow, wonder where he gets that?), so I think these things will be pretty big for him, too, so I know exactly what you mean.
Also… that bear? All I can think of is Ted (the very inappropriate movie… with the bear that comes to life…). So that probably says something about me… no idea what! 🙂

Hahaha Yeah it does look a bit like Ted … and the way it’s hanging conjures up all sorts of things … see, now you’ve got me wondering too. 🙂

That would have been a great marketing plan… bears in random places all over the world! But I’m sure everyone who spotted one would take it! (Including me…) 😀

That cow looks so peaceful, but I agree that the poor teddy bear just looks sad. I wonder how in the world it got up there? And I’m so happy for your son, stepping out of his comfort zone like that! My son was also quiet and rather sensitive when growing up, so I know how important those steps are.
