Wild Night as Tash turns 18

My daughter turned 18 two days ago.  Legally she’s an adult now but she’ll always be my baby.  One who’s never liked a big fuss or being the centre of attention but this weekend that’s what she was.

On Friday night we drove to Mansfield, where she’s worked casually at a horse trail riding company for the past couple of years.  Upon finding out she was turning 18 they organised a birthday dinner celebration with all the people she’s worked with up there.

On the road with her brother and best friend on either side.  Soon she’ll be the one in the drivers seat.

Spectacular skies on the way to Mansfield.

What followed was a lovely night with a group of people who have embraced her with open arms.  A touching speech by Laura, owner of the horse trail riding company, made me realise how loved she’s become up there. And how right we were to put our trust in them.

Her other boss Johno (who also celebrated his birthday on the same day) invited us all to stay overnight at his spectacular property.  The ‘kids’ opted to sleep out in their swags.

Back at home the next day we prepared for our own celebration.  Nothing fancy or too crazy, she didn’t want a large party.  Just her closest friends around a camp fire.

She had a great night. Music, laughter, drinks and pizza, chocolate moose birthday cake … by the time her friends left light rain started to fall. We couldn’t have timed it better.

By 3am a storm arrived with fierce wind and rain. Thunder shook the house and crackling bolts of lightning lit up the sky.   Harry ended up on our bed, a quivering mess of nerves.

Thank goodness they didn’t sleep out like she’d originally planned!    The night had been perfect.  We were all safe inside while Mother Nature put on a wild show outside.

Sometimes things happen for a reason.  Sometimes we’re meant to be just where we are.

Wishing my wonderful daughter lots of love and happiness as she travels onwards.

And I wish you all a wonderful week ahead.  Stay safe and keep enjoying the journey.

  1. A very Happy 18th Birthday to your daughter – a milestone in her life – and yours too! What a wonderful way to celebrate, surrounded by family and friends. She sounds like one secure, wise and grounded young lady. Warmest wishes to you both.

        1. It was good, very productive. Lots of cleaning up this morning after the storm but the yard needed a good spruce up anyway. Enjoy your Sunday. 🙂

  2. Happy Birthday Tash and best wishes for the coming years. We always think our children are wonderful, but it’s such a pleasure when others acknowledge how special they are. And thank goodness everyone slept inside overnight!

  4. I feel like I’ve barely come to terms with being a parent to an adult and yet in a matter of months I will no longer be able to say I’m the mother of three teenagers. I’ll be a mother of two teenagers and a twenty-year-old. It’s too wordy. Definitely not working for me.

Looks like a lovely event. It’s always a relief as a parent to know your kids are surrounded by good people.

    1. Oh yes, I couldn’t agree more. As for that age thing, remember you’re only as old as you feel. Hopefully, even with an almost twenty year old and two teenagers you still feel young at heart. At least some days! 🙂

    1. It does seem like yesterday. Absolutely. 🙂 Thanks for your kind wishes. As for her future, possibly some studies ahead though her path and passion is in Agriculture and working on the land.

  8. Happy Birthday Tash – safe and happy rides and drives. What lovely people at the horse place. Yes an that storm was a beauty very loud here. Good luck for the year ahead with Year 12. Is Tash doing Equine Studies at school ?

    1. Thanks Louise, they’re a great bunch of people up at Mansfield. And yes, that storm was fierce, so loud I thought our roof had been struck! Tash did her Equine Studies Cert 3 last year externally at TAFE, so already completed that part.

        1. Can you imagine how free she might feel, just hearing the ocean and feeling the salt and spray on her cheeks? Makes me think she’d be a little less stuck in her brain that seems to have taken her sideways… I’m going to keep picturing her here and sending those healing thoughts her way…

    1. Thanks Vanessa, you’re too kind. I do my best, like we all do and often worry about her future but no point in that a lot of it is up to her now. Hugs ♥ to you.
