You don’t need to travel far in Australia to be inspired by incredible landscapes. But then again you can spend years traveling around the country doing what’s become known as The Big Lap. As our kids are at crucial years of secondary school we haven’t been able to do that, just yet. But hopefully, in the not too distant future …
In the meantime we make do and enjoy our camping weekends and shorter trips away, taking off occasionally for longer holidays when we can. Here’s a snapshot of some of my favorite places we’ve visited over the past couple of years.
The Flinders Ranges has some of the most spectacular scenery in outback South Australia. I have lots of wonderful memories here … sitting around campfires, stargazing, amazing walks and magnificent scenery.
Every where you look in the Flinders Ranges you feel a sense of space and vastness, a tranquility and slow pace so far removed from the normal craziness of life.
Then there’s Arkaroola one of the places I fell in love with last year. This is a wild landscape – vast, ancient, primitive and completely spell binding.
Closer to home is this view from Craigs Hut in the Victorian High Country, where the film The Man From Snowy River was set. The scenery takes my breath away every time I visit.
Either on foot or on the back of a horse. This is Merlin, my daughter’s faithful stead with a first class view of the mountains around Bogong in the High Country.
These mountains are less than two hours from Melbourne but they could be a world away. Makes for a quick and easy and relaxing weekend getting back to nature.
Even closer to home is this young vineyard in the picturesque hills around Mount Langi Ghiran. I love my wine almost as much as I love camping so combining the two is perfect.
And finally this view of the Mundi Mundi plains in outback NSW. I’ll never forget the horizon at sunset, it seemed to stretch for eternity. I felt a sense of peace and contentment and that all was well with my world. A feeling we can have anywhere, but when nature inspires us it somehow transcends the ordinary.
In response to this weeks Daily Post Photo Challenge – Landscape.
Wishing you all a landscape of love, where ever you are.
Stay safe and enjoy the journey.
LOVE it, Miriam! We are so lucky to live somewhere so beautiful and you never fail to showcase the very best of the stunning landscape in your photos!

We do live in a beautiful country. I enjoyed our big lap last year and we have often talked since of returning to the Kimberleys. It is stunning out there. Gorgeous pictures for this challenge Miriam.

That’s the next place we’d like to visit, the Kimberleys. How long did you take doing the big lap?

We took seven weeks from Darwin back to home, but we did skip Victoria because we’ve been there so often. Did you see any of my posts on the Kimberleys?

I may have seen some of your outback posts but not sure about the Kimberleys. I think I would have remembered them so I’ll have to go back and visit again. 🙂

Thanks for your mini tour. The Flinders Range certainly give a sense of space and emptiness. You keep providing me with places to put on my “to do” list 🙂

Terrific shots! That horizon does seem to go into infinity. I’m sure it was even more amazing in person. 😃

It definitely was. Somehow it doesn’t seem to do it justice, but that’s the case with a lot of photos I guess. Thanks!

It is. No substitute for what the eye sees, but good photography captures that essence. You did that here. 😊

My wife loves The Man From Snowy River! Her favorite scene comes near the end, when the young man rides his mountain-jumping stallion down a near-impassable grade.
I just had one of those out of this world moments reading this, seeing these pictures. Took me back to when my wife first shared that movie with me. Thanks for sharing, Miriam.

Wow. Thank you for the awe-inspiring “virtual” tour of Australia 😉 As and when time permits, I am sure to visit the land of kangaroos and much much more in the future 🙂
Also, just wanted to share something with you 🙂 I guess you knew Nikki at Richness of Simple Life was conducting a meet and greet with an award theme. I nominated you for Most Inspirational Blog Award:) The description goes like this for the award. “Inspires, motivates and possibly even challenges you!” This is not a real award I guess, but just wanted to let you know 🙂 You can check what I described about you here and I mean every word of it:)

My favorite shot too, that was on the Ridge top tour in Arkaroola. The only way you could get there was by guided tour, it was an incredible landscape.

I like how you take us on elegant trips with yourself, out in the Nature, while speaking those lyrical sentences, filling us with optimism while also telling about your reflections about life, then slowly at the end, you bid an amiable goodbye with wonderful closing lines, gifting us well wishes about different things every time and leaving us with a feeling of happiness and nostalgia. 🙂
