This is the first time I’ve participated in Hugh’s Challenge and when I saw the theme I couldn’t resist. Not only because “under” is how I’ve been feeling lately, but because it’s something I want to get over. Lots of swirling emotions and images came to mind.
So these are just a few of my photos depicting “under” on our travels, a pictorial journey and reflection of my recent moods.
This tunnel at Molesworth in Victoria runs along the old Rail Trail. It was hand built and was a massive engineering feat in its day. It’s also a bit indicative of how I’ve been feeling lately. You know those days when things feel slightly out of control and you can’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. When things seem dark and overwhelming, and you feel you don’t know what’s going on around you.
But the way forward is always the best. Eventually every tunnel leads us to the other side. It’s just a matter of taking that step forward and following the path towards the light. It’s here the answers tend to show themselves.
Sometimes it takes a while to get over something, and not just this trestle bridge in the hills around Noojee in Gippsland, but when life throws us obstacles and challenges. I loved walking across this bridge. It looks old but it has character, strength and resilience, which is what’s needed when things get hard.
I know I’ve posted this one before but this bridge is one of my favorites. The lift bridge at Paringa in South Australia opens for vessels to go under whenever they request passage. I love the way it opens just as life offers surprises and new opportunities for us.
And finally this last photo, taken in the King Valley near Whitfield in Victoria, shows me under a sheer rock face and thin waterfall. There’s not much water but to me the light streaming over the rocks depicts hope, brightness and optimism.
See more of what is ‘under’ it all at Hugh’s Weekly Photo Challenge: Week 15 – Under!
May we all see the beauty in everything and feel that whatever is ‘under” us can always be overcome. I wish you much happiness as you continue the journey.
Hope you see the beauty too and overcome whatever is keeping you ‘under’

Thank you so much for participating in my weekly photo challenge, Miriam. First of all, I’m sorry to hear things have not been too good for you recently. I hope you pass through that light at the end of the tunnel very soon.
I love all the photos you’ve entered for the challenge, especially the last one. We have some waterfalls here in Wales and whilst I’m not a great fan of going in the water I do like to sit and watch them.
With my best wishes,
Hugh

That trestle bridge is an amazing construction. I like how you’ve captured the perspective with the car going under.

Hi Miriam, I’m sorry to read about your current feelings of being ‘under’ and I can so relate to your post at the moment. I really appreciate the positive spin you have put on each photo and I will attempt to take on some of your words of wisdom! I’m a real rail trail enthusiast ad love the old tunnels, I wrote a post once about the ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ featuring a very similar photo and I love, love love the old trestle bridges along the way. Take care and hopefully all will right itself for you soon. 🙂

Found something else we obviously share- a love of bridges. 🙂 I hate tunnels but I’ve been down that rabbit hole a time or two 😦 Obviously I don’t know at this stage what your troubles have been, but you’re right- the only way is forward 🙂 Hope life looks a little more rosy soon.

Hey, thanks Jo, I think it’s just a stage, I’ll work through it. Long tunnel but there’s always light at the end. I just have to stay positive.
