Daily Prompt: Because the Night – I’m a Cross bird!

Today’s daily prompt is called Because the Night and it asks;

Are you a night owl or are you the early bird? What’s your most productive time of day? When do you do your best work?

I’m a bit of a cross-bird, (not an angry bird mind you) but a mixture of a night owl – and kookaburra! – and the early bird that gets the worm! Now, that’s a crazy mix I know.

I enjoy early mornings when my mind is refreshed and a new day is yet to begin, but I think that generally I do my best creative writing late at night when most of the others in my household are tucked up in bed. Strangely enough, this is when I feel energised.

The creative juices get flowing and for some reason my mind feels free to escape, to remember, to create and unleash its wonders. It helps when I go outside too, when I breath in that fresh night air and gaze up at a sky full of stars. And a moon when it’s full or even just peaking through the clouds.

Or maybe it has something to do with the laughing kookaburras that have taken up residence in our backyard. Yesterday I went outside and found two of them sitting on my car.

They looked ready to travel. I wonder if they’re trying to tell me something.

  1. Are you sure they are owls? Not sure what they are, but I’m pretty sure they are not owls. At any rate, glad you are writing, I am still a night owl, but my favorite time to write has turned out to be the morning. I write all day long at different times but always, that’s what my mornings are devoted to, even though I don’t go to bed until 2 to 4 a.m.

    1. You’re quite right, the first guy is a kookabuura, the second is the bird that got the worm! And it’s kookaburras that have taken up residence. Looks like the laugh’s on me! At any rate I generally write whenever I can squeeze in a bit of time. Thanks for dropping by and setting me straight!! 🙂

  2. I can’t stop scribbling notes these days at any time. Even washing dishes seems to prompt ideas, then it’s a rush to dry the hands and write it down before the ageing mind forgets it! Love the kookas.

  3. I am definitely a cross bird too… At night my brain ends up running wild, accepting ideas and different paths of thinking. I get some ideas that i myself see as ‘not ideal’ in day time. Night has its own magical effects. Maybe this Makes me a bit creative too.. 😀
