Out an' About

“Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.”

I loved reading Dr Seuss books to my kids when they were little. Loved the silly rhymes that somehow made a crazy kind of sense.

The above quote is one that I’ve always tried to live by. I’ve also tried to instill it in my kids, who are both now teenagers, and both finding their way in this world.

So this is what I say to them. Be yourself and don’t try and be someone else. Don’t blindly follow the crowd, especially if you think they’re heading in the wrong direction, but dare to be different. Don’t be afraid to say what you think because true friends will respect your opinion even if they don’t agree with you. I hope that they’ll grow up being true to themselves, no matter what. It can be hard in this crazy, busy world but I can only steer them in the right direction, then it’s up to them.

For a final bit of Dr Zeus writing I’m including this poem which I think resonates with my blog and general outlook on life. I hope you enjoy it.

Oh, the Places you’ll go:

• You have brains in your head.

  You can steer yourself
