Out an' About

I love this quote. To me life is about exploring new horizons, experiencing different cultures and places, meeting new and interesting people and stepping outside our comfort zone. And taking risks. Even if sometimes (well, often!) it feels scary.

I also happen to love the ocean.  And ships, though I’ve yet to experience a luxury cruise, at least not like the Love Boat type anyway!  Give me a ferry ride or a high octane jet boat ride anytime!  When I met my husband, way back in my twenties, he was into scuba diving and I couldn’t swim!  We were often out in a speed boat with friends. I remember thinking, “I’ve got to learn to swim if I’m going to stay with this guy!”   Four years later we went to the Maldives for our honeymoon and I swam and snorkelled in the most pristine waters ever.

Whilst it’s comforting to have a “safe harbour”to come back to, I think life would be pretty damn boring if we didn’t sail out of home base to see what’s beyond the horizon. Dangerous seas? Yea, sometimes. But there’s also a lot of smooth sailing to be enjoyed. If we stay at home and don’t take chances in life we’re never going to know where we can reach.
