Don’t stop the Music

I’ve got a confession to make. I’m addicted to Zumba. It’s not very often I go into a room full of people, most of whom I don’t even know, and shake my ass, shimmy, salsa and sumba and get down and dirty. But when it’s Wednesday I turn into a super charged version of myself.

Another confession, I hear music in my head (not voices okay, I’m not that unbalanced!)  But I do hear music – a lot. Kind of pumps through my veins like a drug and propels me forward. Can’t be a bad thing, hey? Keeps those feel good endorphins flowing.

I’ve just come from an intense hour of stepping, shaking, shimmying and getting down to the music. It felt so good. I hadn’t had my fix for a couple of weeks and was starting to suffer withdrawal symptoms!  It was a smallish class today which was good as it gave us lots of room to do our dance moves!

From Michael Jackson’s big disco beats to Flamenco, African tribal music and get down rumba, the music just didn’t stop. Well, it did eventually, so I guess I’ll just have to keep the beats going in my head. And take them out in the world. So if you see someone shimmying down the footpath you’ll know where they’ve been!

This is our gorgeous instructor Zoe, before our class this morning. She’s our own pocket rocket of energy, enthusiasm and amazing dance moves, who gets us shaking every week and who was happy to pose for my blog.

To anyone out there who’s contemplated trying Zumba but thought they were uncoordinated, too embarrassed, too busy or what ever, don’t be scared. When the music starts it really doesn’t matter. No one cares what you look like. It’s so incredibly good for you. And it’s so damn fun!

  1. I loveee dancing. I’m constantly dancing around the house to the music in my head. While I’m cooking, folding laundry, washing dishes. I love it. I CANNOT bring myself to shake my ass in public, though. I wish I could. Maybe if I stand in the very back? It looks like a hell of a lot of fun, though.

  2. Thanks for sharing your anecdotes on Zumba, Miriam! I’ve heard that it’s super fun (and not too mention a great work out), but I have yet to try it out. Maybe it’s about time that I start taking a class! 😀

  3. I love Zumba too! I used to take classes a few months back and absolutely enjoyed them! Sadly, my instructor left the class as she shifted somewhere else and I didn’t quite like the new instructor. So currently, I follow youtube tutorials and do Zumba at home 😀

    1. It’s amazing the difference that a good instructor makes. Good on you for still keeping it up, though I have to admit the energy in a room full of like-minded people is hard to beat. 🙂
